President Prabowo Orders Firm Investigation into Acid Attack Case

Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto has instructed law enforcement authorities to thoroughly investigate the acid attack against activist Andrie Yunus from Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence. The directive was delivered directly to the Chief of the Indonesian National Police to ensure the investigation proceeds professionally and transparently.

Chief of the Indonesian National Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo confirmed that he had received a direct instruction from the President to handle the case seriously. He emphasized that the police will conduct a comprehensive investigation.

“Regarding the attack on the activist, I have received a direct order from the President to carry out a thorough investigation in a professional and transparent manner,” Listyo Sigit said.

According to him, the investigation will prioritize a scientific approach to ensure that every step in handling the case is conducted objectively and accurately.

Meanwhile, Head of the Government Communication Agency (Bakom) of the Republic of Indonesia, Angga Raka Prabowo, expressed deep concern over the incident involving Andrie Yunus. He stressed that the government strongly condemns all forms of violence against citizens.

“The government expresses deep concern over the incident that befell Andrie Yunus. We strongly condemn any act of violence against anyone,” Angga said.

He added that the government hopes the victim will receive optimal medical treatment and recover from the impact of the incident. Angga also emphasized that every citizen has the right to express opinions peacefully in a democratic society.

The government, he continued, is paying serious attention to the investigation of this case. Law enforcement authorities are expected to work professionally and transparently and bring the case to a full resolution.

“Every act of violence must be processed firmly in accordance with applicable law. The government hopes the law enforcement process will proceed properly so that the perpetrators can be held accountable,” he emphasized.

Previously, Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra also highlighted the incident. He stated that the attack against a human rights activist represents a blow to democratic practices in Indonesia.

“The acid attack against Andrie Yunus from KontraS is an attack on democracy itself. Human rights activists work for the interests of the people and the state, because the enforcement of human rights and democracy is a constitutional mandate,” Yusril said.

He stressed that differences of opinion in a democracy should be addressed with mutual respect rather than violence. According to him, attacking activists who advocate for democracy and human rights cannot be justified in a country that upholds the rule of law.
