President Prabowo Prepares 2.9 Million Jobs Amid Layoffs

Jakarta — President Prabowo Subianto is committed to creating 2.9 million jobs per year as an effort to overcome the wave of layoffs that have hit various industrial sectors in Indonesia. This step is realized through synergy between the Minister of Investment and Downstream Rosan Roeslani and the Minister of Manpower Yassierli who continue to refine the strategy for creating new jobs.
The Minister of Investment and Downstream, Rosan Roeslani, expressed optimism that in the next five years, the average number of new workers created each year will reach 2.8 million to 2.9 million people. “We see that this year (2025) to the next five years (2029), the average number of workers created per year will reach 2.8 million to 2.9 million people,” said Rosan in an official release.
If this target is achieved, President Prabowo’s government will have succeeded in creating around 14.5 million jobs during one term. Rosan’s optimism is based on previous investment achievements, where last year 2.45 million jobs were created from an investment realization of IDR 1,700 trillion.
Rosan revealed that the workforce readiness factor is a major concern for investors.
“One of the things they (investors) always convey when they invest is the workforce readiness factor,” he explained. According to him, preparing a skilled workforce is very important so that they can be directly involved in production activities when the investment is running.
Minister of Manpower Yassierli also supports this commitment by increasing the capacity of the workforce through 303 Job Training Centers (BLK) spread throughout Indonesia. He emphasized the importance of competency certification so that the workforce has national and international competitiveness.
“We want to ensure that Indonesian workers have professionally recognized competency certification. The National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) under the Ministry of Manpower is ready to guarantee the quality of certified workers so that they can compete nationally and internationally,” said Yassierli.
This job creation effort is very crucial amidst the rampant layoffs that have hit a number of large companies, including PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk (Sritex) with 8,400 employees affected by layoffs. In addition, layoffs also occurred at Yamaha Music, KFC aka PT Fast Food Indonesia, PT Sanken Indonesia, and two shoe factories in Tangerang Regency, namely PT Adis Dimension Footwear and PT Victory Ching Luh. Through solid cooperation between ministries, President Prabowo is optimistic that Indonesia will be able to recover from the employment crisis and provide decent jobs for the community.
