Jakarta – The government has begun public outreach and socialization of the new Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) as part of efforts to reform the national legal system. This step is intended to ensure that all law enforcement officers and the public understand the substance of the regulatory changes, which emphasize the principles of justice, human rights protection, and legal certainty in the law enforcement process in Indonesia.
The Minister of Law of the Republic of Indonesia, Supratman Andi Agtas, stated that socialization of the new KUHAP is a crucial stage before its full implementation in practice. The government aims to ensure that changes in criminal procedural norms and procedures are thoroughly understood by law enforcement officers, so that their application does not result in differing interpretations.
He emphasized that the new KUHAP is designed to strengthen the protection of citizens’ rights without reducing the effectiveness of law enforcement.
“This socialization is important so that all officers share the same understanding, enabling law enforcement to proceed in a fair, transparent, and accountable manner,” he said.
Furthermore, Supratman explained that the renewal of the KUHAP is part of the national legal reform agenda aligned with the government’s vision of strengthening the rule of law. Through regulations that are more adaptive and just, the government hopes public trust in the legal system will continue to increase, and that legal processes will deliver a sense of justice to all parties.
From the law enforcement side, the Indonesian National Police stated their readiness to support the implementation of the new KUHAP through procedural adjustments and enhanced personnel capacity.
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo affirmed that the institution is prepared to follow the government’s policy direction and ensure that every officer comprehensively understands the changes to criminal procedure law.
“The National Police are ready to adjust our steps and procedures so that the implementation of the new KUHAP truly reflects justice and the protection of public rights,” he emphasized.
The government views the socialization of the new KUHAP as an important foundation for realizing a modern, balanced, and substantively just criminal justice system. With synergy between the government, law enforcement agencies, and the public, the implementation of the new KUHAP is expected to strengthen public trust and ensure that law enforcement is carried out in a more professional and equitable manner.
