PUPR Minister Says Indonesia Continues to Push for Water Governance to Bring Benefits to All Parties

BALI — The PUPR Minister revealed that Indonesia continues to encourage water management to bring benefits to all parties in the world at the 10th WWF Summit.

Regarding this, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that the implementation of the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali was able to attract a lot of people.

“We actually expected 13 to 15 thousand, but now it has reached 21 thousand. “This has improved WWF for 30 years,” he said.

Not only that, Minister Basuki also explained that at the world-class water forum on the Island of the Gods, several new things had happened.

“There are 3 things that differentiate the 10th WWF, firstly, this is the first time a summit has been held, usually there are none, once the forum is opened it goes straight to thematic and normal processes,” he explained

“Secondly, this is the first time a ministerial declaration has been ratified, including that we have succeeded in inventorying 113 projects with a budget of 9.4 billion USD in WWF,” added Basuki.

Then, the PUPR Minister also revealed that because of the existence of the 10th WWF, it had a big impact on the economy in Bali.

“If we look, the planes are all full, the hotels are all full, the restaurants are all full,” he said.

There was also a Ministerial Declaration through this event, which was ratified through 3 mechanisms and discussed at UNESCO Headquarters since November 2023.

Indonesia as the host continues to encourage the sharing of knowledge from various countries regarding water security efforts.

“In this declaration, Indonesia is carrying out 3 priorities, firstly establishing a Center of Excellence for water and climate security to develop knowledge sharing capacity and utilization of superior facilities,” he said.

Not half-hearted, according to Minister Basuki, Indonesia is committed to continuing to encourage innovation in water and sanitation management.

“As an archipelagic country, Indonesia must be at the forefront of encouraging innovation in water and sanitation management,” he said.

Indonesia also continues to encourage equality on small islands so that they have integrated water management.

“Raising the issue of managing water resources in an integrated manner on small islands,” said the PUPR Minister.

Apart from that, Indonesia also proposed celebrating World Lakes Day so that water really brings many benefits.

“Proposed world lake day or World Lake Day. “Lakes are a source of water supply that meets human needs while also having social and economic functions for the community,” concluded Basuki.
