Rapid Energy Transition Becomes Government Commitment to Realizing National Energy Self-Sufficiency

Jakarta – The government has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating the energy transition to realize the pillar of national energy independence. This effort is an integral part of the strategy towards National Energy Self-Sufficiency.

Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Eddy Soeparno, stated that the government is targeting 8 percent economic growth by maximizing the energy potential sourced from Indonesia’s natural resources, both through the development of new, renewable energy sources and the optimization of sustainable domestic resources.

“President Prabowo is committed to expanding the renewable energy mix as an effort to achieve the Net Zero Emissions target by 2060 or sooner. On various occasions, President Prabowo has stated that achieving the 8% economic growth target requires maximizing the energy potential of Indonesia’s natural resources,” said Eddy.

Eddy also stated that Indonesia is striving to deregulate various sectors, including renewable energy, while simultaneously implementing structural reforms to attract more investors.

“I understand that among the challenges in developing renewable energy are the high costs and the potential economic viability of investing capital to finance these projects,” he continued.

Meanwhile, Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Yassierli invited Indonesian universities to play an active role in preparing competent and adaptive human resources for the green energy and economy transition.

The government is committed to implementing the principle of a just transition by ensuring that no one is left behind.

“Our policies, both those related to training and the development of the employment ecosystem, are aimed at ensuring that all parties can adapt to change. No one should be left behind,” said the Minister of Manpower.

Furthermore, he stated that the transition to a just and inclusive green economy opens up significant opportunities for new job creation, while also posing a challenge to the readiness of the national workforce.

“Green jobs are no longer an option; they are our obligation to prepare human resources capable of meeting these needs,” said the Minister of Manpower.

With this growing momentum, the government is inviting all stakeholders, including local governments, industry players, academics, and the younger generation, to work together to support the pillars of energy self-sufficiency. Energy self-sufficiency is not just a target, but a shared responsibility.
