Jakarta – Amid increasingly complex global challenges, the transition of government from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to President-elect Prabowo Subianto is expected to run smoothly and have a positive impact on the Indonesian economy. This is assessed based on the policies that have been laid down by President Jokowi, especially in strengthening the foundation of the economy through industrial downstreaming and positive signals given to the market.
According to the Director of the School of Global Strategic Studies, University of Indonesia, Athor Subroto, Indonesia has succeeded in maintaining economic growth amidst global supply chain disruption, and has even outperformed several developed countries.
“We have become a country that is developing quite well because of the foundation whose multiplier effect is drawn, such as the downstream program to maintain the economic process that occurs domestically so that the multiplier is getting bigger,” explained Athor. This strong foundation provides a great opportunity for the Prabowo government to continue improving the Indonesian economy.
Athor also emphasized that President Jokowi’s enthusiasm in encouraging economic growth has given a positive response in the market. “In fact, our economic figures continue to improve. The market is responding well, and this gives a positive signal for economic actors to continue their activities,” he added.
Political stability under the Jokowi administration, which embraces various political components, has also provided confidence for economic actors to continue investing in Indonesia.
On the other hand, Faisyal Chaniago, a Political Economy Observer from Bung Karno University, is optimistic that the Prabowo government will be able to continue the positive achievements that have been made by President Jokowi.
“The economic growth that occurred during President Jokowi’s era can be continued by the Prabowo administration, especially in increasing the role of state-owned enterprises and diversifying economic sources,” said Faisyal. He added that in this transition period, it is important that there is no overlapping policy so that all programs can run well.
A smooth government transition is also considered to provide a positive signal for the market. “President Jokowi’s message to his staff to support Prabowo’s cabinet is a signal that he wants this transition to be successful.
Good leadership must be continued, otherwise it will be a problem,” said Athor. Thus, the continuity of this leadership is expected to maintain the stability and economic growth of Indonesia in the future.
