Success in Drug Busts Applauded by Various Parties

JAKARTA – The success of the Directorate of Narcotics Crime (Dirtipidnarkoba) of the Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) in thwarting the distribution of 4.1 tons of narcotics within two months has received appreciation from various parties.
Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Ahmad Sahroni, regarded this achievement as concrete proof that Indonesia is serious about combating the increasingly alarming drug trade.

“Commission III appreciates the performance of Bareskrim Polri in successfully sweeping clean drug-related cases in the country. On the other hand, such a large quantity also indicates that drug abuse in Indonesia has reached a very concerning level,” Sahroni stated.

Sahroni hopes that the police and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) can collaborate with the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) to trace the financial flows of drug networks in order to expose major drug lords.
“The state must dare to fight major drug lords so that the drug trafficking chain can be completely severed,” he added.

Meanwhile, in Palembang, the hard work of the Narcotics Investigation Unit of the Palembang Metropolitan Police in dismantling a drug distribution network from Malaysia has also been recognized by the Palembang City Government.
Palembang Mayor Ratu Dewa and Deputy Mayor Prima Salam presented an award directly to the Chief of Palembang Metropolitan Police, Police Commissioner Harryo Sugihhartono, and the Head of the Narcotics Unit, Police Commissioner Faisal Manalu.

“This award is a form of appreciation for the success of the Narcotics Unit in uncovering a Malaysian drug network with evidence of 8 kg of methamphetamine and 1,000 ecstasy pills, valued at IDR 1.6 billion,” said Ratu Dewa.

At the national level, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam), Budi Gunawan, also praised the success of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) in dismantling a major drug network in Indonesia. The operation conducted by BNN successfully seized various types of narcotics with a total value reaching IDR 1 trillion.

“Our highest appreciation goes to all ministries and institutions that have contributed to narrowing the space for drug circulation in Indonesia,” said Budi Gunawan. He emphasized that the government will not stop and will continue striving to protect the younger generation from the threat of drugs.

BNN Chief, Commissioner General of Police Marthinus Hukom, added that this revelation was the result of collaboration with various agencies, including Customs and Excise, the Police, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and intelligence support in targeting high-risk drug smuggling areas such as the waters of Sumatra and the Malacca Strait.

“This success reaffirms the government’s commitment to continuously strengthening drug eradication strategies in an aggressive and systematic manner,” Marthinus stated.

With more integrated measures, it is hoped that drug trafficking networks in Indonesia can be further suppressed for the future of the nation’s next generation.
