Support for Ciliwung Water Lovers at the 10th World Water Forum in Bali

Bali – The election of Indonesia as the host of the 10th WWF is an important moment to show the world its real commitment and contribution in the field of water resources.

Sustainability of water resources has become an urgent issue for the world. Global water demand is increasing sharply, in line with population and industrial growth. Meanwhile, the availability of quality and sustainable water is increasingly difficult due to environmental degradation and climate change.

Seeing this, Usman Firdaus, Founder of the Ciliwung Founding Society, who also contributed to the success of the World Water Forum activities in Bali, said that by appointing Indonesia as the host of the WWF event, the communities who were concerned with water issues saw this as a good and positive thing.

“Starting from 2002, it was announced that WWF would be part of water empowerment, especially now the theme is water for peace because everywhere is experiencing a climate crisis for water resources and we must protect their availability so that they are used for the benefit of the lives of many people,” he said. when met at the Mat Peci hermitage, in South Jakarta.

Usman also said that whatever the conditions, as a community that is concerned with water and the environment, Usman will continue to move to protect the environment.

“Whatever the conditions, we will continue to move, especially to protect our environment, with tomorrow’s forum, especially at world level, we hope for a significant level of change, especially in managing water resources, so that when it rains, water is abundant but not managed well or vice versa during our dry season. not preparing water availability because the situation is dire, we hope that the positive impact of WWF can have a good impact on the world and society in general to develop water sources in our environment so that we can overcome the worst things in the future and “This water remains a source of livelihood in all life. As for the cooperation that will be produced at the Forum in Bali tomorrow, we will continue to support and provide our thoughts and real work on the environment,” he said again.

In the WWF, the Indonesian government will propose the implementation of a watershed (DAS) spatial planning policy, namely Zero Delta Q, as an effort to control flooding as part of the thematic process of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali on 18-25 May 2024. The implementation of the Zero Delta Q policy is not can be done alone.

“To deal with disasters, multi-party cooperation is carried out both domestically and internationally because climate change is not only in Indonesia but globally and even leads to a climate crisis, therefore in overcoming this climate crisis the world community must also pay attention to the steps taken “by the Indonesian government because apart from the cooperation of all parties and it will be felt by all parties, it must also be implemented seriously and work together for the world community so that it can overcome climate change in various aspects,” he said.

Usman also provided several steps to face the climate crisis.

“In overcoming drought, we have to start planning how we will deal with drought. In several activities we encourage related parties, in this case the government, private sector, education, academics, how they can take part in preparing everything related to water storage, for example using irrigation channels that can be used by the community, then making the easiest sources of income, we make rainwater harvesting and we have carried out rainwater harvesting where the function is to collect rainwater in a container or tower and then process the water. So the results can be consumed or carried out by other activities, the benefits are very big, especially for areas that experience long dry seasons, but in areas that don’t experience dry seasons, we also need to anticipate because we never expect a drought to come, we start from small things, such as collecting rainwater at home. “One way that falls, one way is to save water on the face of the earth by collecting rainwater and making the best use of it,” he explained.

Usman also invited communities and the government to join hands to protect the earth and water.

“This time I invite the river community and other environmental communities in Indonesia to synergize with the existing working notes on how river restoration becomes a strength. Then don’t forget that this water resource is a strength, whatever the conditions, water must remain available, such as water on earth. “There’s only one drop left, so money and other assets are no longer useful, so let’s protect our earth and our water supply,” he concluded.
