In facing the 2024 Regional Head Election (Pilkada), security is a non-negotiable top priority. Every step and decision taken must prioritize the security and integrity of the democratic process.
Strengthening the security system towards a safe and reliable 2024 Pilkada is a challenge that requires synergy between a number of related parties. From the application of the latest technology to synergistic efforts between government institutions, the police, political parties and the community, everything aims to ensure that the election process takes place smoothly and fairly.
In this way, people can cast their votes without worry and doubt, so that the results reflect the true will of all citizens.
In ensuring the integrity and transparency of the regional elections which will be held on November 27, the West Kalimantan General Election Commission (KPU) has decided to adopt an electronic-based method of matching and researching voter data (e-Coklit).
This step, as stated by the West Kalimantan KPU Commissioner, Suryadi, aims to increase accuracy and efficiency in updating voter data. Not only that, significant updates to the e-Coklit application also enable its operation in areas with limited signal access. This paves the way for monitoring officers to work without technical obstacles, even in remote areas without a signal.
Elections using the e-Coklit method have been tested in the simultaneous elections last February, but a number of updates have been made to overcome obstacles faced in previous use. One of the advantages is its ability to continue operating in areas without a signal, after logging in initially in an area that has internet access.
Data synchronization can then be carried out in places where the internet network can reach it, such as village offices, ensuring that the information collected can be accessed and managed smoothly.
However, the implementation of this technology does not solely rely on sophisticated applications. An equally important part is the role of election monitoring officers who are the spearhead in the process of updating voter data.
The West Kalimantan KPU has carried out the recruitment process carefully, ensuring that the assigned officers have sufficient understanding of the regional situation and conditions of the local population. One of the absolute requirements is the presence of an Android cellphone, ensuring that officers have a device that suits the technological needs used.
The training process and understanding of the use of the e-Coklit application is a priority in the preparation of military monitoring officers. With the hope that this application can be used optimally to achieve 100 percent participation in updating voter data for the Pilkada, the West Kalimantan KPU emphasizes the importance of careful supervision and monitoring of the use of this technology.
