Tax Reform Brings Justice to the People in Response to the Demands of 17+8

Jakarta — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that the tax reforms implemented by the government are a form of state responsibility in responding to public aspirations summarized in the 17+8 People’s Demands.

“Taxes are not just a means of state revenue, but an instrument for achieving justice. The strong help the weak, and those with the means contribute more. This is the spirit of the nation we are building together,” he said.

Indonesian Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa added that the government is taking concrete steps to ensure that tax reforms do not burden the lower classes.

“We ensure there will be no new taxes in 2026. Our tax reforms simplify regulations, broaden the tax base fairly, and leverage digitalization for transparency,” he said.

Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, emphasized that parliament supports the government’s steps to ensure that tax reform not only increases revenue but also strengthens public trust in the state.

“The 17+8 aspirations must be understood as both correction and input. The DPR is committed to ensuring that tax policies remain pro-people,” he explained.

Arsjad Rasjid, Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), stated that the business world welcomed the direction of tax reform because it provided certainty in the investment climate and fairness in the distribution of the tax burden.

“Fair policies will encourage entrepreneurs to invest more, expand employment opportunities, and ultimately provide greater benefits to society,” he stressed.

Professor of Economics at the University of Indonesia, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, emphasized the importance of making tax reform a valuable momentum for the nation.

“This tax reform must be a major momentum for the state to be more equitable for its people. If the people feel justice, public trust will grow, and this nation can move forward,” he concluded.
