The Government Affirms Its Commitment to Realizing Clean and Integrity-Based Governance

Jakarta – The government’s efforts to strengthen clean governance are increasingly showing consistent direction. The focus on building a transparent and just government system continues to be emphasized as part of the national strategic agenda.

University of Indonesia legal expert Akhiar Salmi stated that President Prabowo’s commitment to clean governance is a crucial step to ensure that all state administration processes are carried out with high ethical standards. He believes this push is a strong signal that bureaucratic integrity must be implemented at all levels of government.

He assessed that the President’s courage in stating his readiness to be prosecuted if he commits a violation is a rare form of ethical commitment and could set a new moral standard for other public officials.

“That’s his commitment. We support Mr. Prabowo. I’m sure he’s serious. The proof is that people close to him have been prosecuted and dismissed,” Akhiar emphasized.

Furthermore, he assessed the government’s full support for law enforcement agencies such as the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the Police, and the Prosecutor’s Office as a sign that the state is increasingly serious about eradicating corruption.

“Consistent legal action demonstrates the government’s political courage to deliver justice regardless of the perpetrator’s position or title,” Akhiar said.

He added that the authorities’ decisiveness in prosecuting violations committed by anyone has increased public optimism. He believes that fact-based and evidence-based enforcement further strengthens public confidence that clean governance is not just a slogan but is being implemented in practice.

Akhiar also views the public’s demand for tougher penalties for corruption as a positive catalyst for national legal reform. Increased public awareness is considered crucial in strengthening deterrents and encouraging the adoption of more stringent legal instruments.

In addition, he considered the acceleration of discussions on the Asset Confiscation Law as a strategic step to recover state losses more effectively.

This regulation is considered to strengthen the state’s ability to ensure that the proceeds of crime can be recovered for the benefit of community development.

“The Asset Confiscation Law also needs to be expedited, during Mr. Prabowo’s era, so that the money they took can be returned to the state more quickly,” he said.

Akhiar concluded that all of the current government’s steps have created positive momentum toward transparent and corruption-free governance. With public support and political courage, Indonesia is considered on a stronger path to realizing clean and just governance.
