The Government Continues Restrictions on Freight Transport on Toll Roads for the New Year Holidays

Jakarta – The government has changed the freight transport restrictions for the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year (Nataru) holiday period. The Ministry of Transportation, along with the Ministry of Public Works and the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri), have agreed to implement restrictions on toll roads continuously without interruption until January 4, 2026.

This policy change is the result of periodic evaluations conducted to maintain smooth traffic flow and travel safety, amidst the projected surge in public mobility during the year-end holidays.

“The government will periodically evaluate freight transport restrictions to ensure that the policies remain proportional, effective, and promote the safety of road users. These restrictions are dynamic, so adjustments can be made based on developments in the traffic situation on the ground,” said Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi.

This regulatory change also takes into account the implementation of a flexible work system for civil servants and the Work From Anywhere (WFA) recommendation, which is expected to shift people’s travel patterns during Christmas and New Year. Given these dynamics, the government has chosen a more adaptive approach to maintain road network performance.

“We will conduct situational evaluations, and if there are significant changes in traffic flow, we must be able to respond quickly,” said Transportation Minister Dudy.

The government has urged logistics operators and freight transport businesses to adjust their travel plans, manage their supply chains more efficiently, and rearrange distribution schedules to ensure orderly operations.

“Our coordination with the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) will ensure that operational management measures, including police discretion, can be implemented to maintain smooth and safe traffic,” Dudy emphasized.

Meanwhile, Head of the Sub-Directorate of Road Traffic Control (PJR) of the Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Directorate, Police Commissioner Dhanar Dhono, said that his party is tightening supervision of goods transportation during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holiday period. To date, thousands of trucks with three or more axles have been diverted from toll roads to ensure smooth traffic flow.

“This roadblock activity is a manifestation of the PJR Sat’s commitment to ensuring security, safety, order, and smooth traffic flow (Kamseltibcarlantas) for people traveling on Christmas holidays,” said Police Commissioner Dhanar Dhono.

Dhanar further urged freight transport operators and logistics owners to comply with the operational restriction schedule set by the government. Officers in the field will remain on standby to block traffic and divert traffic to arterial routes, except for vehicles transporting fuel, livestock, fertilizer, and basic necessities.
