Riau – Riau Governor Abdul Wahid emphasized the Riau Provincial Government’s (Pemprov) move to establish a Task Force for the Smooth Operations of the Upstream Oil and Gas Special Task Force (SKK Migas) and Cooperation Contract Contractors (K3S) in the region. This initiative is believed to be a crucial breakthrough in supporting accelerated oil and gas production in Riau and strengthening the pillars of national energy self-sufficiency.
“This could serve as an example for all of Indonesia. Previously, just a recommendation for a land use permit, which would take months or even years, can now be completed in seven days. This is to facilitate oil lifting in several blocks in Riau,” he added.
Wahid explained that the technical and administrative obstacles that frequently hamper K3S operations can be resolved through the formation of a task force. With the involvement of various parties, including the police, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the prosecutor’s office, local governments, and the community, he hopes oil and gas production can return to optimal levels.
PT Riau Petroleum Director Husnul Kausarian stated that his company received a 10 percent PI from several K3S operating in Riau. This position makes Riau Petroleum the largest regionally-owned enterprise (BUMD) in Indonesia in managing oil and gas PI.
“We’re building a K3S partnership in Riau to carry out operational activities aimed at increasing production. K3S in the field encounters both technical and non-technical challenges. So, our role is to help increase production,” he said.
He added that the formation of the Upstream Oil and Gas Operations Smoothness Task Force is a form of real commitment from the regional government in securing the energy and economic interests of the Riau people.
“With this task force, the downstream side will be increased production, which will ultimately generate greater revenue for Riau Petroleum in the future. We will distribute dividends to Riau Province as a result,” he explained.
In line with this, the central government is placing significant emphasis on the upstream oil and gas sector as a driving force for national economic growth. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa is even optimistic that the Indonesian economy could grow by up to 6 percent in the next two years, with upstream oil and gas as a key pillar.
Meanwhile, cutting-edge technological support from national energy companies also bolsters production efforts. PT Elnusa Tbk, through its Coiled Tubing Services, provides efficient technology to maintain sustainable oil and gas production in mature fields. This technology allows well optimization without shutting down operations, thus maintaining oil and gas lifting.
