The Government Focuses on New Governance to Improve the Quality of the MBG Program

Jakarta – The government continues to strengthen the governance of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program as a strategic step to ensure its benefits are optimally enjoyed by all. This strengthening is marked by the implementation of Presidential Regulation No. 115/2025 concerning Governance of the MBG Program, a new regulation that serves as the basis for improving coordination across ministries and agencies.

Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan emphasized that the implementation of the Presidential Decree is an important momentum in strengthening program governance.

“We concluded the inaugural meeting to kick off the implementation of Presidential Decree No. 115/2025 concerning the Governance of the Implementation of the MBG Program, which was stipulated by the President on November 17, 2025, following the previous Presidential Decree in which the Coordinating Minister for Food was asked to serve as Chair of the Coordinating Team between ministries/institutions,” he said.

He emphasized that more solid coordination would be key to ensuring that nutrition distribution was on target.

To strengthen the effectiveness of implementation on the ground, the government is also encouraging capacity building of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform, Rini Widyantini, explained that the BGN will be strengthened by adding Technical Implementation Units, namely Nutrition Fulfillment Service Offices (KPPG) in various regions.

“Strengthening the KPPG institution is a strategic issue that needs to be implemented immediately, considering that KPPG is the spearhead of BGN in providing services and distributing MBG in the regions,” he said.

Rini added that the new MBG governance is also supported by accelerated service digitalization. The government is currently developing the MBG data architecture using a by-name-by-address approach to ensure accurate targeting of beneficiaries.

“Data is the main foundation. The MBG’s digital architecture will rely on the integration of population and geospatial data from various agencies,” he emphasized.

This integration also involves the Ministry of Communication and Digital, Bappenas, and BSSN, as part of strengthening the Electronic-Based Government System (SPBE) and the One Data Indonesia program.

This institutional, governance, and data system strengthening is part of the government’s long-term strategy to strengthen the MBG program as a foundation for improving national nutrition. The government is also preparing cross-sectoral business processes to ensure all agencies work in harmony to support the program’s success.

With a more robust policy direction, a stronger institutional structure, and an integrated digital system, the Free Nutritious Meal Program is expected to improve the health and well-being of the nation’s next generation, while strengthening the government’s commitment to developing superior and competitive human resources.
