Jakarta – The government has emphasized that freedom of expression in public is a constitutional right of every citizen, guaranteed by law. In response to various rumors surrounding alleged attempts to manipulate student demonstrations, the government stated that all public aspirations are respected as long as they are expressed peacefully, orderly, and in accordance with applicable law.
Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the government has no interest in hindering or directing the public’s aspirations. He stated that the government is opening up communication with various groups, including students, as part of the democratic process. “The government respects the public’s right to express their opinions. Every aspiration will be used as input for policy refinement,” he said.
Prasetyo added that President Prabowo Subianto has consistently directed all levels of government to build open communication and prioritize dialogue in resolving various issues. “The President’s directive is to build good communication with all elements of society and listen to the various aspirations that arise,” he emphasized.
National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, emphasized that the police are committed to ensuring the safe and humane expression of opinions. He stated that officers are present to ensure the event proceeds safely and to protect the rights of all citizens. “We guarantee that every citizen can express their opinions in accordance with applicable regulations, while maintaining public security and order,” he said.
Listyo Sigit also urged all protesters to maintain public order, respect the rights of those using public facilities, and resist the influence of provocations that could disrupt security. “Let’s work together to maintain a safe and conducive atmosphere so that the expression of our aspirations can proceed smoothly and with dignity,” he said.
The government considers open dialogue to be a crucial component of strengthening democracy and building trust between the government and the public. Opinions expressed through constitutional mechanisms will inform evaluation in the formulation and refinement of various public policies.
