The Government is Accelerating the Construction of 1,046 Temporary Housing Units in East Aceh for Flood Victims

Jakarta – The government continues to accelerate the construction of 1,046 temporary housing units (huntara) in East Aceh Regency as part of the recovery phase for flood-affected communities. This acceleration is being implemented to ensure residents can quickly leave evacuation centers and move into more suitable, safe housing, which will support the recovery of their families’ social and economic lives.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that providing temporary housing is a top priority in post-disaster response, as it concerns the protection and dignity of citizens. The President emphasized that the state must be actively involved with swift and measurable solutions to prevent affected communities from living in emergency situations for extended periods.

“The government must not leave people in evacuation centers for too long. Temporary housing must be prepared immediately so people can begin rebuilding their lives,” President Prabowo Subianto emphasized.

Following up on this directive, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), along with relevant ministries and local governments, is intensifying the construction of temporary shelters in East Aceh. Construction is being carried out in stages, taking into account technical disaster standards, the availability of clean water, sanitation, and access to public facilities, so that the shelters can be occupied quickly and function optimally.

The Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Suharyanto, stated that the accelerated construction of 1,046 temporary shelters in East Aceh is part of the government’s commitment to ensuring swift and targeted recovery.

He explained that BNPB is conducting cross-sector coordination and direct supervision in the field to ensure that the completion target can be achieved according to plan.

“We ensure that the construction of temporary housing is carried out according to standards and can be immediately used by flood-affected communities,” he said.

The government emphasized that the construction of temporary housing is the initial foundation for a more comprehensive recovery, including the construction of permanent housing and economic recovery for the community.

Through this accelerated step, the state demonstrates a strong commitment to protecting its citizens and ensuring that the post-disaster recovery process is sustainable and equitable.
