The government is targeting the construction of 24,000 MBG kitchens by the end of 2025

Jakarta – The government is targeting the completion of 24,000 Free Nutritional Meal Kitchens (MBG) by the end of 2025 as part of accelerating the provision of national nutrition services.

This strategic step was designed to ensure the nutrition infrastructure is fully operational when the MBG program is launched simultaneously in January 2026. This effort also serves as an important foundation for strengthening food security, reducing stunting rates, and improving the quality of human resources from an early age.

The Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, explained that BGN has prepared two schemes for the development of Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) which are the spearhead of program implementation.

“Around 20,000 SPPGs are planned to operate in agglomeration areas, while another 4,700 SPPGs will be built in remote areas,” said Dadan.

He added that if all infrastructure targets can be realized according to schedule, the MBG program is projected to run simultaneously starting in January 2026.

“Infrastructure expansion will significantly impact the capacity of national nutrition services. Initially, this program aims to serve 60–70 million beneficiaries,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, Ferry Juliantono, confirmed that production sector cooperatives are ready to support the provision of raw materials for SPPGs. The government requires a detailed map of SPPG locations to synchronize raw material distribution across the cooperative network.

“We will expedite the supply of materials for the SPPG kitchens currently under construction and those to be built. Therefore, we need to provide information on the locations of these locations so we can synchronize with the cooperatives to ensure they can supply the necessary supplies,” Ferry explained.

Similarly, the General Chair of the Indonesian Nutritious Food Entrepreneurs Association (Gapembi), Alven Stony, said that his party has collaborated closely with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) to strengthen the participation of MSMEs in providing nutritious food kitchens and services.

“As a government partner, Gapembi and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) have collaborated to coordinate and mobilize MSME entrepreneurs to participate in providing nutritious food pantries for targets such as preschool through high school students, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers,” explained Alven.

He added that Kadin and Gapembi also act as incubators for MSMEs to ensure they meet operational standards, from supply chains to food hygiene and quality.

Alven emphasized that the involvement of MSMEs will have a dual impact, expanding access to nutritional services while simultaneously stimulating the local economy in the region.

“We are ensuring support for business actors so they are ready to contribute to this national program,” he concluded.

With the collaboration of the government, the business world, and cooperatives, the accelerated development of 24,000 MBG kitchens is expected to be an important milestone in realizing national nutrition services that are inclusive, sustainable, and have a broad impact on the future of the nation.
