The Government Strengthens Supervision and Maintains Staple Food Stocks Ahead of the Christmas and New Year Holidays

Jakarta – The government continues to strengthen its readiness to meet the public’s basic needs ahead of the 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year holidays. This period is always accompanied by increased consumption and public mobility, requiring the government to take stricter monitoring measures regarding supply, distribution, and price stability. Inter-ministerial coordination and collaboration with local governments and businesses are also being strengthened to ensure the availability of staple foods.

The Head of the National Food Agency and Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, emphasized that the government has prepared anticipatory measures by mapping potential increases in demand for several food commodities. He stated that the availability of strategic food supplies is sufficient to meet public needs during the holiday period.

“Strategic staple food stocks are guaranteed to be safe to meet the demands of Christmas and New Year,” he said.

Amran emphasized that the Bapanas team and local governments conduct daily price monitoring. He stated that price stability is being maintained through strengthened distribution and the provision of food reserve interventions when necessary.

“Prices and supply of a number of key commodities remain stable thanks to intensive monitoring,” he said.

Furthermore, Trade Minister Budi Santoso stated that distribution challenges are a primary concern for the government, particularly as the Christmas and New Year holidays approach. The Ministry of Trade continues to strengthen monitoring of goods movement to prevent distribution bottlenecks that could trigger price increases for consumers.

“Price and distribution monitoring must be tightened ahead of the year-end holidays, accompanied by cross-sectoral coordination from the central to regional levels,” he stressed.

Budi added that coordination with local governments and business actors is ongoing to ensure the smooth flow of goods in traditional markets and modern retail.

“Cross-sector coordination is working well to ensure the community’s basic needs are met and to take alternative measures if distribution issues arise,” he added.

With strengthened oversight, guaranteed stock adequacy, and continued improvement in central-regional coordination, the government is optimistic that the community’s basic needs during Christmas and New Year will be maintained and easily accessible.
