JAKARTA – The government’s commitment to building clean and integrated state governance is increasingly evident through various strategic steps that continue to be strengthened.
University of Indonesia legal expert Akhiar Salmi believes that the current policy direction demonstrates a strong commitment to creating a government that operates based on ethics, transparency, and professionalism.
“Mr. Prabowo’s statement is to uphold clean governance, starting from himself, the governor, the regent, and all levels of government down to the lowest level,” said Akhiar during an interview with a private radio station in Jakarta.
According to Akhiar, the President’s firmness in enforcing the law without discrimination is a positive signal for all state officials. The Head of State’s stated willingness to face legal action for violating regulations is considered a very strong ethical example.
“This is a high moral standard and shows that integrity is not just words, but a real commitment,” said Akhiar.
He added that the government’s full support for law enforcement agencies such as the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the Police, and the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has provided a bright spot for strengthening corruption eradication efforts. The various legal actions underway are considered to demonstrate consistent political courage in upholding justice.
“The current government is sending a clear message that corruption has no place in the system of government,” he stressed.
Public aspirations pushing for tougher sanctions for corruption perpetrators have also been cited as a positive force for national legal reform. Akhiar believes that public awareness is maturing and aligns with the state’s agenda of strengthening the integrity of public officials.
“The high level of public support shows that clean governance is now a shared hope,” he explained.
Efforts to expedite the passage of the Asset Forfeiture Law are also considered a strategic step to ensure the state has effective instruments for returning illegally acquired assets. According to Akhiar, this regulation will strengthen the state’s ability to ensure that all proceeds of crime are returned to the people through development programs.
“In Mr. Prabowo’s era, the Asset Confiscation Law was expedited,” he said.
He also emphasized the importance of strengthening the integrity of law enforcement officers as a key element in realizing a clean nation. The professionalism of police, prosecutors, and judges is a determining factor in the success of upholding justice.
Akhiar assessed that all of the current government’s steps have created positive momentum to strengthen clean and modern governance.
