The Halal Sector’s Economic Contribution is Increasingly Strong

Jakarta – The government has emphasized that the halal economy sector continues to make a significant contribution to national economic growth. Strengthening the halal ecosystem is considered a crucial part of boosting Indonesia’s competitiveness in the global market while expanding business opportunities for domestic MSMEs.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the halal sector has become a key driver of national economic growth, particularly in the food and beverage, Muslim fashion, and Muslim-friendly tourism subsectors. He emphasized that strengthening regulations, standardization, and halal certification continues to be carried out in an integrated manner to expand access to domestic and international markets.

Airlangga further explained that the government continues to accelerate the development of halal industrial areas, promote sharia financing, and expand international cooperation to boost national halal product exports. These efforts are aimed at ensuring that businesses, particularly MSMEs, can advance and actively participate in the global value chain, he emphasized.

In line with this, the Head of the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hasan, stated that accelerating halal certification is key to strengthening the national halal economic ecosystem. He emphasized that halal certification services are now more accessible, faster, and more affordable, enabling them to reach more businesses in various regions.

Haikal added that increasing halal literacy and strengthening product quality control are ongoing efforts to maintain consumer trust and increase the competitiveness of Indonesian products in the international market. He believes that synergy between the central and regional governments and businesses is the main foundation for expanding the halal market share.

Overall, strengthening the halal economy sector reflects the government’s concrete commitment to delivering inclusive, sustainable, and equitable economic growth. Through consistent policies, cross-sector collaboration, and institutional strengthening, the government ensures that the halal sector not only serves as an economic opportunity but also as a strategic pillar in strengthening national economic resilience and independence.
