The Importance of the Role of Religious Leaders in Maintaining Unity Ahead of the 2024 Election

Jakarta — In the run up to the 2024 general election, maintaining the value of national unity and integrity is indeed something that must be done. One of the keys in Indonesia’s diverse society is the role of religious leaders.

The Deputy Minister of Religion (Wamenag) of the Republic of Indonesia, Zainut Tauhid Saadi, invited all parties to engage in politics in a moderate manner.

This, especially ahead of the upcoming 2024 Election democratic party, according to him, differences in choices should not lead to divisions.

“Moderation in politics is important to be implemented for citizens of the nation, so that differences in choices do not become the reason for the birth of divisions,” explained Zainut.

He also invited all mass organizations and religious leaders to participate in maintaining the success of the upcoming democratic party.

“In connection with the entry of the Political Year, I invite all leaders of Islamic organizations, scholars and religious leaders to make this five-year agenda a success,” said Zainut Tauhid.

The Deputy Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia then explained that the task of religious leaders and leaders of mass organizations is to be able to provide education to the public regarding the proper use of voting rights.

“Educating the public to exercise their right to vote intelligently, freely, democratically and responsibly,” he continued.

Not only that, but he also hopes that religious leaders will take an active role in maintaining the values of brotherhood and harmony in society.

“I hope that the leaders of Islamic organizations, clerics and religious leaders will be able to invite the community to maintain the values of brotherhood, harmony and unity,” he added.

For him, holding elections is only a five-year agenda, which will not be worth it if you have to sacrifice brotherhood.

“Elections are only a five-year agenda, while brotherhood is forever. Let’s still be brothers, there are no more strongholds,” said the Deputy Minister of Religion.

On another occasion, Member of the Indonesian Parliament for the PKB faction, Ibnu Multazam, invited religious leaders to continue to maintain unity and integrity ahead of the 2024 elections.

“Ahead of the 2024 simultaneous elections, the key to maintaining national unity is to continue to emphasize the importance of understanding the values of the Four Pillars of Nationalism,” he said.

“For this reason, we invite religious leaders, community leaders and youth leaders to be important elements to ground this spirit,” he added.

The role of religious leaders is very important, because Indonesian society itself consists of very diverse backgrounds.

“This is important for me to convey, because the State of Indonesia is a very large country, which is inhabited by various ethnic groups. This enormous diversity needs to be bound by the values contained in the four pillars of the MPR, “concluded Ibnu Multazam.
