South Kalimantan – The government inaugurated 166 People’s Schools across Indonesia on Monday (January 12, 2026). The hundreds of People’s Schools were officially inaugurated by President Prabowo and are expected to herald new hope for equitable education in Indonesia.
President Prabowo stated that the inauguration of hundreds of People’s Schools was a major breakthrough in the education sector during his administration, and also demonstrated the government’s commitment to always being there for its people.
“Through this inauguration, the government emphasizes that human development through education is a top priority,” said President Prabowo.
The People’s School is designed to have adequate, affordable, and inclusive learning spaces, primarily targeting children from poor families, extreme poor families, and those who were previously at risk of dropping out of school or did not have access to formal education.
Through this program, not only educational facilities are provided, but also comprehensive support, starting from fulfilling nutritional needs, school supplies, to social and health assistance, so that children can learn safely, healthily, and sustainably.
President Prabowo also expressed his appreciation for all ministries and institutions that have worked together to realize the dream of poor and underprivileged children to attend school. He expressed his gratitude for this achievement.
“Thank you all, we’ve made this effort a reality. Frankly, I’m quite happy, quite elated. I’m actually touched by the impact of our efforts,” said President Prabowo.
President Prabowo wasn’t the only one feeling moved. Nusyifa, a fourth-grade student at Palangkaraya Elementary School 6, bravely submitted a letter of thanks to President Prabowo during the inauguration of the Elementary School at the Banjarbaru Integrated Elementary School (SRT).
The letter, written in Nusyifa’s own handwriting, expressed her gratitude for now being able to attend school thanks to the presence of the People’s School.
“Thank you, Mr. Prabowo, for establishing this People’s School, so that my friends and I can experience school,” he said.
Nusyifa also wrote about her hopes for the future of herself and her schoolmates. She believes the People’s School can be a space to realize her dreams.
“This school will shape us into creative, intelligent children with leadership qualities like you,” he continued.
