The presence of security forces in Papua shows the strong commitment of the TNI, Polri and BIN to maintaining stability and improving the welfare of the people in Bumi Cenderawasih. Even though the Free Papua Organization (OPM) continues to carry out acts of provocation and intimidation, the security forces continue to prioritize humanist steps in an effort to maintain peace and protect civil society.

In the midst of the challenges presented by the separatist group, the TNI-Polri not only carry out security duties but also play an important role in supporting development in the area nicknamed Little Heaven that Fell to Earth.

Major General Hariyanto, Head of the TNI Information Center, emphasized that the main mission of the security forces in Papua is to assist the government in accelerating development and improving people’s welfare.

The presence of the TNI-Polri in all corners of Bumi Cenderawasih is of course not part of a special military operation, but rather part of other broader tasks related to economic and social development efforts in the region. Security forces ensure that there is no interference or intimidation from troublemaking groups that could hinder people’s lives.

The disturbances carried out by Papuan separatist gangs have disrupted normal community activities. The daily lives of residents in several areas of Papua are experiencing difficulties due to acts of intimidation and threats from the OPM.

Apart from carrying out security duties, the TNI also plays an active role in supporting the welfare of the Papuan people through various programs that directly impact the lives of local people.

One initiative that should be appreciated is the activity of purchasing agricultural products from farmers in Beoga District, Puncak Regency. First Lieutenant Ari Surahman, Beoga Post Commander, said that this activity was carried out with the aim of helping improve the welfare of the community, especially farmers.

By purchasing all agricultural products produced by local farmers, including those managed by Papuan Mamas, TNI soldiers directly encourage farmers’ enthusiasm for cultivating agricultural land.

This initiative provides multiple benefits for the Papuan people. On the one hand, farmers receive economic support through purchasing their agricultural products. On the other hand, this step also proves the security forces’ commitment to promoting the welfare of communities in areas that often experience difficulties.

Papuan mothers, as the backbone of the family economy in many areas, are greatly helped by this activity, which gives hope for a better future.

Apart from supporting local economic activities, the TNI-Polri also play an important role in overseeing all government policies related to development in Papua. National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized that the TNI-Polri have synergized with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) to ensure that all development programs in Papua run smoothly. This synergy is very important considering the challenges faced in implementing various infrastructure development projects in the region nicknamed Little Heaven at the tip of Indonesia.

The development program in Papua includes various major initiatives, including the development of Special Economic Zones (KEK), airport construction, and regional expansion. Apart from that, the government is also focusing on developing the tourism sector and agricultural infrastructure.

The National Police Chief emphasized that the success of these programs is very dependent on a stable and conducive security situation. Therefore, the role of the TNI-Polri is very crucial in ensuring that government policies can be implemented well for the welfare of the Papuan people.

In order to realize this goal, the National Police Chief explained that the approach used by the TNI-Polri consists of two main strategies: Soft Approach and Hard Approach. The soft approach is implemented through education, outreach and improving the quality of the education sector and human resources in Papua.

The program aims to provide understanding to the public regarding the importance of development and maintaining public order. Meanwhile, the hard approach, or Hard Approach, is directed at groups that try to obstruct government policies or disrupt security in the region.

Synergy between the TNI, Polri and BIN with various government institutions is one of the keys to success in implementing priority programs in Papua. Apart from that, the commitment of the security forces to continue to prioritize a humanist approach in facing security challenges gives hope that Papua’s future will be more peaceful and prosperous.

The Papuan people, especially those who live in the areas most affected by separatist disturbances, need security guarantees and real support from the government and security forces.

In the midst of all the challenges faced, efforts to develop Papua continue with high enthusiasm. Infrastructure development programs, local economic development and improving community welfare are the main focus of the government in the area nicknamed the Golden City.

Security forces, both from the TNI and Polri, not only act as guardians of order, but also as agents of change who contribute to creating a better Papua.

Through various efforts made, the TNI-Polri remain committed to maintaining Papua as an integral part of Indonesia, while encouraging inclusive and equitable development. The humanist approach taken by the security forces is an important foundation in building a peaceful, prosperous and just future for Papua.
