TNI Succeeds in Protecting Papuan Citizens from Teranus Group OPM Terror

TNI troops from the Special Raider Yonif Task Force (RK) 753/AVR have again demonstrated their commitment to maintaining security and protecting the residents of Muara District, Puncak Jaya Regency, from terror carried out by the Free Papua Organization (OPM) group led by Teranus Enumbi. In its latest action, the TNI succeeded in paralyzing three suspected OPM members who often spread terror in the area.

Kapendam XVII/Cenderawasih, Lieutenant Colonel Inf Chandra Kurniawan, explained that this incident began when the authorities detected the presence of Teranus Enumbi and several of his members who entered a residential area in Karubate Village, Muara District, carrying firearms. Responding to this situation, the Yonif RK 753/AVR Task Force immediately took action to prevent potential threats to residents.

“Members of the Yonif RK 753/AVR Task Force on Tuesday evening at around 19.45 WIT took firm action against the OPM group led by Teranus Enumbi who often terrorized the local community,” said Lieutenant Colonel Inf Chandra Kurniawan.

Three suspected members of the Free Papua Organization (OPM) led by Teranus Enumbi were shot dead by TNI members on Tuesday (16/7/2024). Kapendam XVII/Cenderawasih Lieutenant Colonel Inf Chandra Kurniawan revealed that the three OPM members often terrorized the Puncak Jaya Regency area, Central Papua.

“It’s true, members of the Yonif RK 753/AVT Task Force took action on Tuesday (16/7) evening at around 19.45 WIT by shooting suspected OPM members led by Teranus Enumbi,” said Chandra Kurniawan in his statement on Wednesday (17/7/2024).

Currently, the bodies of the three suspected OPM members are still at the Mulia Hospital, capital of Puncak Jaya Regency. The three people who died had the initials SW (33), YW (41), and DW (36).

Chandra Kurniawan explained that the incident started with the detection of Teranus Enumbi and several of his members who entered a residential area in Karubate Village, Muara District, carrying firearms. A quick response from the Yonif RK 753/AVT Task Force was carried out to handle the situation.

“When they were about to be arrested, the OPM members resisted by firing shots at the soldiers so that they returned to paralyze them,” he added.

At the scene, the TNI found a homemade pistol and a Morning Star flag. Unfortunately, Teranus Enumbi managed to escape.

Teranus Enumbi is known to be one of the OPM leaders who is on the police’s wanted list (DPO) in connection with a number of attacks on security forces since 2018.

Several acts of violence involving Teranus Enumbi were recorded, including the attack on March 19 which resulted in two soldiers being injured, the shooting of motorbike taxi driver Jainul (44) on May 30, the shooting of civilian Prasetyo (33) on May 31, and the attack on motorbike taxi driver Husen (39). on June 19.

With firm action from the TNI, it is hoped that the security situation in Puncak Jaya Regency, especially in Muara District, can return to being conducive and the community will feel safer.
