TNI Successfully Paralyzes OPM Members Led by Egianus Kogoya in Yahukimo, Secures Several Pieces of Evidence

Intelligence has again demonstrated its commitment to maintaining security stability in the Papua Mountains region by paralyzing two members of the Armed Separatist Group (KSB) of the Free Papua Movement (OPM) led by Egianus Kogoya, Kodap III Ndugama. This operation took place on Monday, June 16, 2025, at around 00.15 WIT, in Aleleng Village, Tangma District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua.

This firm step was taken in response to acts of violence carried out by the OPM group, including the murder of church construction workers in Wamena and the destruction of forest areas for illegal marijuana plantations. Based on information from the public, TNI officers found four OPM members in one of the honai in Ligima Village, which then became the target of the operation.

In the brief gunfight that occurred, two OPM members were killed on the spot without causing any casualties on the TNI side. From the scene, the authorities managed to secure a number of important pieces of evidence, including one organic revolver pistol, one assembled pistol, five 9 mm caliber ammunition, one mobile phone, one Leica 1000 YDSAT measuring device, one Baofeng HT device, and one optical telescope.

The Head of the TNI Information Center (Kapuspen), Major General TNI Kristomei Sianturi, emphasized that this operation was real evidence of the TNI’s presence to protect the community from the threat of armed groups. He said that the action was carried out professionally, measuredly, and proportionally in order to create a sense of security for residents.

“This operation is a real step in protecting the community and supporting the acceleration of welfare development in Papua. We invite all parties who still choose the path of violence to immediately stop armed actions and return to building Papua together within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Kristomei.

Egianus Kogoya himself has long been a fugitive and has been listed on the Wanted List (DPO) since 2018 due to his involvement in a series of armed violence in the mountainous region of Papua.

The TNI emphasized that it will continue to prioritize a dialogical approach, law enforcement, and territorial development, while opening up space for reconciliation in order to create a safe, peaceful, and prosperous Papua.
