Traces of Jokowi’s 10 Years of Success in Leading Indonesia to Become a World Stage on the Archipelago

Jakarta – The government of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has succeeded in strengthening Indonesia’s position on the international stage through a series of global events held in Indonesia. This success is one of Jokowi’s biggest legacies in raising Indonesia’s image in the eyes of the world.

United Nations Secretary General (UN Secretary General) Antonio Guterres appreciated Indonesia’s success in showing extraordinary capacity in uniting various parties.

“In a difficult situation where geopolitical differences are at their peak, Indonesia has demonstrated extraordinary capacity in bringing together various parties, encouraging dialogue and seeking solutions,” said UN Secretary General Guterres.

Even in the midst of the Covid19 pandemic, where all countries in the world are experiencing difficulties, Indonesia succeeded in holding the G20 Summit in 2022. This is of course an extraordinary achievement under President Jokowi’s leadership.

In 2023, Indonesia will become Chair of ASEAN with the theme ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth. Indonesia is determined to make ASEAN remain important and relevant for the people of ASEAN and beyond as the center of regional economic growth.

Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu), Retno Marsudi, appreciated the partnership between Indonesia and ASEAN during the 10 years of President Joko Widodo’s administration.

“For the past 10 years, President Joko Widodo’s government has remained committed to ASEAN,” he said.

Apart from that, Indonesia is also the initiator and host of the Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Summit, which is a forum for strengthening collaboration between archipelagic countries and island countries.

Jokowi’s active economic diplomacy efforts to promote Indonesia in forums have succeeded in attracting foreign investment and increasing global investor confidence in Indonesia.

UN Deputy Secretary General, Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, said that the UN expressed its appreciation for President Jokowi’s leadership in holding an important forum to overcome the global crisis.

“On behalf of the UN, I would like to express my appreciation for the leadership shown by the Indonesian Government in holding this important forum,” said Armida.

On various occasions, President Jokowi always invites countries to unite, collaborate and increase solidarity and become a driver of change amidst global challenges.

On the other hand, another extraordinary legacy of Jokowi is that his efforts to participate in realizing world peace are worthy of consideration.

The delegation from the Bureau of the Committee on the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP) or the UN Palestine Committee expressed its appreciation for Indonesia’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian struggle.

President Jokowi even received the highest award from the Palestinian Government, namely the “Grand Collar Order of the State of Palestine”, which was handed over by the Special Envoy of the President of Palestine, Riyad Al Maliki, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

“This award was given as a form of respect for President Jokowi’s efforts in strengthening relations between Indonesia and Palestine and in supporting the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom and independence,” he said.

Jokowi’s active role also positions Indonesia as an important player in global issues such as climate change and world peace. For example, Indonesia’s initiative in bridging the Russia-Ukraine conflict received international appreciation.

During the G7 Summit in Japan, President Jokowi met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who expressed his appreciation for Indonesia’s role in pursuing peace in Ukraine.

“I remember His Excellency [Jokowi’s] arrival was one of the first to Ukraine. “Thank you and we will always remember,” Zelenskyy said at the time. [-ed]
