Jakarta – The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has confirmed that transportation infrastructure in North Sumatra Province is fully prepared to support the smooth flow of travel during Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026.
The main focus is on restoring connectivity after floods and landslides to ensure that public mobility and logistics distribution continue safely and smoothly.
Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, emphasized that restoring road and bridge access is the government’s top priority.
According to him, transportation infrastructure plays a vital role in supporting community movement.
“The Ministry of Public Works continues to strive to ensure that this access becomes functional again as quickly as possible. Roads and bridges are the lifelines of public mobility and logistics distribution,” said Dody.
To face the 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year period, the Ministry of Public Works has deployed 85 personnel at Christmas and New Year command posts, supported by 96 units of heavy equipment and thousands of units of emergency response materials in the form of aggregates and geobags.
All equipment has been prepared to anticipate potential emergency conditions during the long holiday period.
In the toll road sector, the Ministry of Public Works has ensured that all toll road sections in North Sumatra have returned to normal operation. The Medan–Kualanamu–Tebing Tinggi Toll Road, which previously implemented a contraflow system, is targeted to resume full operation.
Other strategic sections such as the Medan–Binjai, Medan–Pangkalan Brandan, Medan–Sinaksak, and Tebing Tinggi–Kisaran toll roads are also confirmed to operate optimally during the Christmas and New Year travel period.
Meanwhile, the ferry transportation sector is also confirmed to be ready to serve the surge in public mobility. President Director of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero), Heru Widodo, emphasized ASDP’s commitment to maintaining user safety and comfort.
“ASDP is committed to providing reliable ferry services by placing safety, empathy, and responsibility as the main foundations of our service,” said Heru.
ASDP has prepared 222 vessels to serve hundreds of ferry routes nationwide and has optimized its digital ticketing system, Ferizy.
From the toll road perspective in the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) and Bandung areas, PT Jasa Marga through Jasamarga Metropolitan Tollroad has prepared anticipatory measures to face the increase in vehicle volume.
Senior General Manager of Jasamarga Metropolitan Tollroad, Widiyatmiko Nursejati, stated that traffic engineering, improved transaction services, and optimized monitoring technology have been prepared.
“We ensure that all construction work is completed before the holiday period and conduct routine observations to anticipate potential road damage,” said Widiyatmiko.
With cross-sector infrastructure readiness in place, the government is optimistic that the Christmas and New Year travel flow will run safely, smoothly, and under control across all regions.
