ACP Not Discuss about West Papua during Meeting in Brussel, Belgium

CIDISS – Regarding to news about ACP meeting in Brussel, Belgium (3-4 May 2017) and Discuss about West Papua during the meeting, the ACP Secretariat rejected reportage of the Pacific statement, by stated “indicating the issue of Papua “did not feature” during the meeting” such in Radionz.co.nz.

Indonesia’s embassy in New Zealand also has confirmed and dismissed the Vanuatu minister statement that African and Caribbean countries support their push for a new Papuan self-determination process.

In statements speech by Indonesia’s embassy in New Zealand, “the argument made by a Vanuatu politician that African countries support self-determination in Papua is False,”.

Africa Caribbean Pacific Group of States (ACP) during the meeting has made 3 decisions and 4 resolutions. The 3 decisions are 1) Review of the Georgetown Agreement, 2) Post-Cotonou Agreement, and 3) The Humanitarian Situation in Haiti.

Meanwhile, the 4 resolutions are 1) ACP Agricultural Commodity Trade And Sector Development, 2) ACP-EU Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs), 3) Support For ACP Member States On The Upcoming UN-WTO and WHO Elections for the Post of Secretary General And Director General, and 4) Economic, Commercial And Financial Blockade Against Cuba.

By the points of decisions and resolutions, there is no single point discuss about West Papua. The meeting such in press release in ACP websites only mentions about the resolutions and decisions such mentioned above.

As the information, the significant progress had been made by Indonesia Government in recent years in the areas of human rights and development in the provinces of Papua. Recently, Indonesian President Joko Widodo visited Papua on Wednesday (10/5). His visiting, one of the aims are to check the construction of Trans Papua Road.

The problem in Papua is intern relationship between Indonesia Government and Papua itself. And forever, Indonesia Government will always concern to the Papua development.
