LIPI researcher, Dr. Andriana Elisabeth said that the issue of independent Papua or the Papuan referendum was predicted to become a joint issue on World Human Rights Day. Because, some political wings supporting independent Papua such as KNPB, ULMWP, Free West Papua through demonstrations that always end in chaos. The uproar was indeed always expected by Benny Wenda including Veronica Koman to facilitate the internationalization of the Papua problem, even though until now it was still “a total failure”.
OPM and its sympathizers are no longer fit to address human rights violations in Papua, because there is already a strong commitment from the Jokowi-Ma’ruf Amin government to resolve the Papua problem, even we as Indonesian people who love Papua ask, is there an OPM commitment to take responsibility for human rights violations that so far they have done to civilians both among indigenous Papuans or migrants.
OPM and its supporters both in Papua and outside Papua including outside the country should not be busy looking for and politicizing human rights violations in Papua, because they are also one of the important actors.
Not long ago a video circulating about gross human rights violations committed by OPM, in which the video duration of 2 minutes 13 seconds whose contents demonstrate to protest against children as soldiers by the OPM. The demonstration was carried out in the UK, including Oxford residents who rejected the Oxford City Council who had given awards to “political fugitives / political fugitives” Benny Wenda, ULMWP dedengkot who lived a quiet and luxurious life in the UK from his maneuver selling Papua issues.
The circulation of the video is one of the strong proofs that OPM and Benny Wenda cs imposed the practice of “thief yelling” above suffering, languish and squalor which so far has not been completely resolved in Papua.
OPM and its supporters need to see realistically realize that the issue of the referendum in Papua is no longer in demand, even now the intention of young Papuans to explore Pancasila is expanding and expanding. Finally, we can see that the implementation of the OPM Anniversary on December 1, 2019 was lacking in demand, including even though there were rallies in Ambon and Yogyakarta, only a handful of supporters were followed. And, the steps of law enforcement officers to capture the elements of OPM in some areas also received support from the people of Papua who love the Republic of Indonesia.
The Indonesian people and OPM should realize that the issue of human rights violations is an issue to destabilize the situation and condition of a country to create “uncertainty through color revolutions”. Therefore, OPM should return to the Republic of Indonesia and together with the Jokowi-Ma’ruf Amin government to develop Papua, especially since there is a positive political intention from the government to continue Papua Special Autonomy and even make it Otsus Plus to improve Papua’s welfare through improving health, education, drive people’s economy and infrastructure development.
Resolving the Papua problem is not with destructive discourse such as the Papua referendum, but with the spirit of nationalism and maintaining pluralism, including improving the welfare of the people of Papua.
Better, the younger generation and the people of Papua reflect their love for the Republic of Indonesia by copying the actions of Papuan footballer Osvaldo Haay who is the top scorer of SEA Games football in the Philippines today. Once again Papua is Indonesia and Indonesia is Papua.
