President Joko Widodo’s leadership since 2014 has brought Indonesia significant advancements in participatory democracy. President Jokowi has successfully ensured that the General Election (Pemilu) runs smoothly, transparently, and democratically.

Active community participation continues to be enhanced, both in the election process and in expressing their opinions on government policies. With the continued guarantee of freedom of opinion, association, and organization by the state, Indonesian democracy is becoming increasingly robust.

The seventh President of Indonesia emphasizes the importance of listening to criticism from the public, and his administration has proven that the voices of the people are not only heard but also serve as a foundation for decision-making.

In the context of democratic reform, President Jokowi not only maintains but also strengthens political freedom in Indonesia. As a leader born outside the elite circles of politics and the military, President Jokowi brings a new perspective that is closer to the people.

It not only ensures that the elections run smoothly, but also opens up ample space for freedom of speech and expression of opinions. This serves as an important indicator in assessing the quality of democracy in Indonesia, where citizens feel free to express themselves without fear of restrictions from the state.

Tommy Rahaditia, an alumnus of Trisakti University, assesses that Indonesia is currently in a good condition under the leadership of President Jokowi. According to him, democracy in Indonesia has never been in a bad state, especially since the seventh President of Indonesia has been in office from 2014 until now.

The reforms that have been ongoing for the past 25 years are well-structured, and President Jokowi continues to ensure that this process proceeds within the established framework. A healthy democracy requires a commitment from leaders to uphold political freedom and the rights of the people, and President Joko Widodo has successfully demonstrated this through his inclusive policies and by listening to the citizens.

In addition, political observer Emrus Sihombing believes that democracy in Indonesia continues to progress very well under President Jokowi’s leadership. He noted that various democratic mechanisms, including elections, have been conducted fairly and in accordance with the rules.

Community participation in elections and their involvement in the decision-making process is clear evidence that democracy in Indonesia is not only being upheld but also continuously strengthened.

Under the leadership of the Indonesian President born in 1961, democracy in Indonesia has seen an improvement in quality, reflected in political stability and the freedom of expression that is well-maintained by the government.

The implementation of democratic elections in Indonesia is a key milestone in building public trust in the political system. President Jokowi has ensured that every election process runs smoothly and in accordance with internationally recognized democratic principles.

There are no restrictions on freedom of expression, and even criticism of the government is always met with openness. The Head of State understands that in a democracy, the voice of the people is a priority. Therefore, he always strives to balance the policies implemented with the aspirations coming from the community.

One of President Jokowi’s important achievements is maintaining political stability amid various domestic and global challenges. Under his leadership, Indonesia was able to maintain social-political harmony without sacrificing democratic freedoms.

As the first President of Indonesia from a regional leader background and not from a political or military elite, the man born in Surakarta brings a new approach to governance that is more participatory and open. This approach places the people as a crucial element in decision-making, which is reflected in the inclusive policies implemented during his tenure.

Community participation is not limited to formal political processes such as elections, but also includes various dialogue forums and public consultations opened by the government. These participatory spaces provide an opportunity for the community to give input and criticism on various policies that are currently being implemented or will be applied.
The participatory democracy implemented by the seventh President of Indonesia positions the community as a partner of the government in realizing policies that align with the needs and aspirations of the people. This open model of governance further strengthens public trust in democratic institutions.

In addition, democracy under President Jokowi’s leadership is also maintained through the strengthening of independent and professional state institutions. The General Election Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) continue to function as important pillars in maintaining the integrity of democracy.

The government ensures that these institutions have sufficient authority and freedom to carry out their duties without interference from any party. Thus, the democratic process in Indonesia always takes place fairly and transparently.

The success of the President of Indonesia in maintaining participatory democracy is not only recognized domestically but also by the international community. In various international forums, Indonesian democracy is often cited as an example of how a country with a large population and complex diversity can successfully implement a stable democratic system.

President Jokowi’s leadership has shown the world that democracy in Indonesia is not just a formality, but a real practice that involves all elements of society.

The strengthening of participatory democracy achieved by President Jokowi has become one of the milestones of his administration’s success. Through inclusive and participatory policies, Indonesia is not only able to maintain political stability but also strengthen the foundations of its democracy.

With the opening of public dialogue spaces and the freedom of speech guaranteed by the state, Indonesian society is now more active and involved in the decision-making processes that affect their lives. This is concrete evidence that participatory democracy in Indonesia continues to grow and develop, thanks to President Jokowi’s strong commitment to upholding democratic values.
