Toward 2018 Regional Election

The momentum of the political year will soon be rolling, starting from the elections simultaneously on June 27, 2018 until the 2019 election. Until the elections 2018 simultaneously can still be said as a the transition og refional election. This is because the three waves of local democracy party is aimed to equalize the election cycle and the period of local head of government throughout Indonesia. Based on provincial and district / municipality level head counts throughout Indonesia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has divided the number of first-ever regional election in 269 regions, the second in 101 regions, and the third in 172 regions.

By the end of 2017, all political parties have devised their respective strategies to confront two important points of power betting maps. Starting from the selection of candidates for regional heads, exploring the coalition axis, to race to seek the sympathy of the people conducted political parties. This is because the 2014 election simultaneously is considered to be a continuous projection towards the 2019 Election.

Overall, the implementation of the simultaneous regional election that has been implemented run smoothly and peacefully. However, in elections in 2015 there are a number of problems such as delays in five regions. In 2015 regional elections, the challenge of holding elections simultaneously, one of which is the weather factor. Therefore, the KPU should prepare and organize regional elections before and during the rainy season. 2017 Regional Elections was implemented with better regulation, after Law No. 8/2015 was revised to Law No. 10/2016. The new regulation contains, among other things, reinforces the provisions of the nomination, so that the regional election stages will not be postponed due to the candidate’s status suit. Similarly, the regulation on the double stewardship of the candidate party politicians should be improved to minimize the possibility of disputes. Thus, the various issues that arose in the elections of 2015, which resulted in delays in regional elections, but in 2017, it does not happen again.

Due to the success of 2017 simultaneous regional elections, the regional elections in 2018 will surely run even better. The KPU has proposed to hold a 2018 election simultaneous vote in 171 regions planned to be held on June 27, 2018. The 2018 electoral election will elect regional heads in 17 provinces as well as 154 municipal districts.

By 2017 elections are taking place in 101 areas and by 2015 taking place in 269 regions. Where three provinces with “fat” population, West Java, Central Java, and East Java, will also elect the regional head in this third round (2018) election. The KPU is still finalizing the draft KPU regulations on the stages and schedule of elections in 2018, which the draft will be publicly tested before being brought to a hearing with the House of Representatives Commission II.
