DPR Ensures Discussion of National Police Bill Awaits Presidential Surrender
Jakarta – The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, denied the news that the DPR would immediately discuss the revision of the National Police Law after passing the revision of the TNI Law.
The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives emphasized that if there is a presidential decree circulating in the public, it is not an official decree issued by President Prabowo Subianto. Puan also ensured that the inventory list of problems (DIM) of the National Police Bill currently circulating is not an official draft because the DPR leadership has not received the presidential decree on the bill.
“So, if there is already a DIM circulating, it is not an official DIM,” said Puan.
Similarly, the Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad also said that the revision of the National Police Law will not be discussed in the near future. Dasco claimed that there has been no presidential decree regarding the National Police Bill.
“The DPR has no plans to revise the National Police Law,” said Dasco.
For information, the National Police Bill is included in the DPR’s draft initiative laws. The discussion has been carried out since 2024. A number of articles have been proposed to be changed based on the draft National Police Bill.
Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Hinca Panjaitan, ensured that the discussion of the National Police Bill would be discussed after the parliament received the president’s letter.
“Will it be discussed in a specific place? Of course, we are usually here, in parliament,” said Hinca.
Hinca said that Commission III would invite many experts who have the capacity to provide input on Indonesian police regulations. Transparency is the benchmark for his commission to discuss the National Police Bill.
“Look, if we have made the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) before we started, we are already very open about its length, we even made a power point. We explained the substance. We invited many people to come,” he said.
He emphasized that Commission III of the DPR, which is in charge of law enforcement, is always open to any discussion. Hinca also ensured that if the National Police Bill is discussed in Commission III, then the discussion will be carried out openly as was done when discussing the Criminal Procedure Code Bill.
