Food Estate Project in Central Kalimantan

CIDISS – Food Estate is one of mega project from centre government to make Central Kalimantan Province as the national food barn, in this case, government will widely develop food program. In this program, it will develop some commodity, such organic rice, cassava and sugar. Food Estate becomes one of National Strategic Project in Central Kalimantan besides Train.

Governor of Central Kalimantan, H Sugianto Sabran said Food Estate aim to keep the food stock availability and the price of food. In Central Kalimantan itself, Governor said, has allocated more than 500 thousands hectare land for Food Estate development.

The project includes 300.000 ha for organic rice, 273.387 ha for sugar and 40.000 ha for cassava development in Seruyan regency.

But, the plan project for 2018 meet an obstacle, because centre government or ministry has not decided about the converted area for Food Estate where the land is about 800.000 ha.

“In central Kalimantan, it is about 800.000 ha, with the detail for organic rice is 300.000 ha in Kapuas regency and we wait for the approval, because it is priority project,” said him

The Food Estate for organic rice will focus on three regencies; Palangka Raya, Pulang Pisau and Kapuas. Meanwhile, chocolate and corn will focus on Barito area and others area for other commodities.
