Jakarta – Indonesia has expressed its full readiness to host an important event in the Islamic world, namely the 19th Session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), or the Parliamentary Union of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). This prestigious event is scheduled to take place from 12-15 May 2025 in Jakarta and will be attended by parliamentary delegations from OIC member countries.

Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives Mardani Ali Sera said that the Indonesian House of Representatives will host the 19th conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC (PUIC) or the conference of parliamentary organizations of member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in 2025 which will be held on 12-15 May 2025.

“12 to 15 May 2025 Indonesia, Parliament, led by Mba Puan (House Speaker Puan Maharani) will host the 19th OIC parliamentary meeting, PUIC, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of PUIC,” said Mardani.

The conference carries the theme “PUIC Silver Jubilee – Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillar of Resilience”, in order to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the founding of PUIC since it was first held in Tehran, Iran in 1999.

“The focus of the OIC countries is not only to be ‘angry’ with America or ‘curse’, but we build institutional strength and good governance in each of our countries,” said Mardani.

Mardani said that in the 2025 PUIC conference there will be a discussion session discussing the issue of Palestine to formulate real steps forward for OIC countries in supporting Palestine.

“At the OIC meeting, one of the committees is the Committee on Palestine. It will thoroughly discuss the current conditions, future steps, and actions that can be taken. It’s not just that we condemn, but we build an alliance between PUIC,” said Mardani.

PUIC itself currently has 54 parliamentary members and 25 observer organizations from various regions of the world, making it one of the most representative multilateral parliamentary organizations in the Islamic world.

The main agenda of the session includes the issues of the Palestinian conflict, sustainable development in the Islamic world, strengthening the role of women in parliament, and cross-country collaboration in facing global challenges such as climate change and technological disruption. ***
