Lukas Enembe’s Case Requires Cross-Agency Handling

So far, Lukas Enembe has not fulfilled the summons of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and has always reasoned that he is having a stroke. To deal with this corruption case, it requires assistance from cross-agency so that it can be quickly resolved.
When Lukas Enembe was named a suspect in a corruption case, he should have come to the KPK’s Red and White House to be investigated. Moreover, the evidence and witnesses are complete and the KPK has investigated the case since 2017. However, he always evades and states that he has never been corrupt, then deliberately hides in his house for more than a month, citing heart disease and severe stroke.
The case of Lukas Enembe is getting more and more protracted because he has been absent from the KPK summons twice and according to the rules, a forced pick-up can be held. However, the situation became chaotic because there were Papuans who were provoked and stood guard around Lukas’ house, in Jyapura. They did not want Lukas to be picked up by the KPK and prepared with traditional weapons. The KPK certainly thinks of the safest way, because if it is forced it will trigger bloodshed.
Therefore, a middle way was carried out, namely the KPK representatives who came directly to Papua to meet Lukas Enembe. To handle Luke’s case, cross-agency assistance is needed so that the examination runs smoothly. Previously, a coordination meeting was held between the KPK, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD and related agencies.
Cross-agency handling of the Lukas Enembe case is indeed needed, because he always admits to having a stroke and a severe heart attack. In addition, there is a tight security around his house, so the KPK needs help from agencies such as security forces and also the IDI (Indonesian Doctors Association).
Deputy Chairperson of the KPK Alexander Marwata stated that the coordination meeting related to Lukas Enembe took place on October 24, 2022. Representatives of agencies who attended the meeting included: Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs John Wetipo, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, and representatives from the National Police, the Papuan Regional Police. , Pangdam Cendrawasih, and the IDI team of doctors.
Alexander Marwata continued, during the examination, the KPK will be accompanied by a team of independent doctors from IDI. The KPK will conduct an examination of Lukas as a suspect. Meanwhile, IDI’s independent team of doctors will examine Lukas Enembe’s health condition.
In a sense, the KPK will still examine Lukas even though it is carried out in Papua, because of his health condition. During the examination, it is necessary to be accompanied by a team of independent doctors from IDI to investigate whether Lukas really had a stroke or vice versa. The reason is because there are several photos of Luke which were taken when he claimed to be sick but looked fine.
Lukas will be examined by an independent IDI team because it is more objective, and they come not only to check, but also to make sure that Lukas Enembe really has a heart attack and stroke or is just pretending. Previously, Lukas had been examined by a team of doctors from Singapore, but he was afraid that the results would be manipulated so that he would get sympathy and leniency.
In addition to the team of doctors from IDI, another agency that will assist in the examination of Lukas Enembe is the security forces. They were needed so that there would be no riots when the KPK came to Luke’s house to conduct an investigation. The reason was because around Luke’s house there were mobs on guard, even carrying sharp weapons.
Do not let the masses misunderstand because of the arrival of the KPK team to Lukas Enembe’s house in Jayapura. Alexander Marwata has confirmed that the KPK team came to conduct an examination, not pick up. Therefore, assistance from the security forces is needed so that the situation remains conducive and does not trigger fights.
Previously, Lukas had met with the Papuan Police Chief Inspector General Pol Mathius Fakhiri. He stated that Lukas was willing to be examined by a doctor brought by the KPK. Inspector General Pol Mathius also confirmed that Lukas was really sick and his personal doctor stated that Lukas had a history of four strokes, so it was very risky to travel by plane.
Good cooperation from across agencies between the KPK, IDI, and security forces is highly expected by the community. Hopefully, after this investigation, the case of Lukas Enembe is really finished and he follows the legal process, and accepts whatever punishment he gets. The sentence was given as a consequence because he had committed corruption and gratification and there was already authentic evidence, including CCTV footage when he gambled using the money from corruption.
Lukas Enembe will be examined in Papua, for this purpose the KPK and the IDI team of doctors will fly to Earth of Cendrawasih. The examination was carried out behind closed doors, not in an open field as Luke had previously requested. Then, the handling of this case is cross-agency, because it requires cooperation with doctors from IDI, as well as security forces.
