The arrest by the KPK of the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, was purely an effort to enforce law in Indonesia. This has absolutely nothing to do with other issues, even the arrests that have been made have highly upheld humanity and human rights.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has finally officially arrested the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, who had previously been named a suspect in the gratuity case since September 5 2022. It is known that he was arrested at a restaurant in the Abepura District, Jayapura City on Tuesday, January 10 2023 at around 11:00 WIT.

Then, there was an incident shortly after the arrest of Lukas Enembe was carried out, namely that there had been a number of frictions at several locations and even caused one fatality. Regarding the chronology of the arrests, the Head of the Papua Regional Police, Inspector General Mathius D. Fahiri explained that at first the Governor of Papua was forcibly picked up from a restaurant and taken to the Headquarters of Mobile Brigade Kotaraja.

However, it turned out that at the Mobile Brigade Headquarters there had been friction between a number of Enembe supporters who claimed to be dissatisfied with the arrests and members of the police. In fact, a mob of Enembe supporters threw stones at Brimob members and resulted in the arrest of two people.

When the throwing occurred, Inspector General Mathius then added that there were two people who had been successfully arrested so that the situation in front of the Mobile Brigade Headquarters returned to normal and conducive after the security had taken place. The Papua Police Chief also emphasized that the police had managed to control the situation so that activities around there were returning to normal.

Not only that, but it turned out that commotion re-occurred when the Corruption Eradication Commission took Lukas Enembe on a chartered plane, intending to take the Governor of Papua to Manado, North Sulawesi to then fly him to Jakarta. At that time a number of Enembe supporters again tried to enter the Jayapura Air Base Base Ops area and also made threats using sharp weapons and arrows. Even so, in the end, the security forces managed to control the situation again, so that the police had to thicken personnel and increase the number of patrols to keep the situation in the area conducive.

Responding to the arrest of Lukas Enembe by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam), Mahfud MD emphasized that the arrest of the suspect in the graft case, namely the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, was purely an effort to enforce the law.

In fact, according to Mahfud MD, law enforcement efforts have actually been discussed for a long time and are always delayed. This is because Enembe himself had stated that he was sick. So that when he was sick, he had time to postpone the arrest, which should have been done a long time ago.

The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs reiterated that there really was no other interest behind the arrest of Lukas Enembe, unless it was indeed a matter for law enforcement in Indonesia. Furthermore, he appealed to all parties to better understand how the law enforcement efforts are going, besides that he also hopes that there are no more parties who still argue that it is as if the arrest of Lukas Enembe always collides with matters of protecting human rights (HAM).

In fact, the state itself has paid very close attention to human rights matters, namely when the Governor of Bumi Cenderawasih was declared ill by a doctor, so the arrest that should have been made long ago was postponed. This is because in law, people who are sick are absolutely not allowed to be forced and examined, let alone to be detained, all of whom must ask for a referral from a doctor.

However, it turned out that Lukas Enembe himself was able to carry out his usual activities as if he was already healthy and did not look like someone who was sick because he was in a restaurant. Therefore, when Kaba found out that the graft suspect was no longer sick, he was even able to inaugurate the building and also several other activities.

Knowing that Lukas Enembe was able to carry out his activities normally, consultations were immediately carried out and discussed between the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs and the Chairperson of the KPK on January 5, 2023, and it was immediately decided that the Governor of Papua must be arrested as soon as possible while still paying full attention to the protection of hash its human rights.

So, indeed all of the KPK’s efforts to arrest the graft suspect, namely the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, are purely an attempt to uphold the law in the country and have absolutely nothing to do with other issues. What’s more, the arrests that were made really paid close attention to the human rights aspect because they continued to take into account the condition of the suspect.
