Jakarta – The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, emphasized that until now there has been no official discussion regarding the revision of the Indonesian Police Law (RUU Polri) in the Indonesian House of Representatives for the 2024-2029 period.

She made this statement in response to the pressure to immediately discuss the bill.

Puan also confirmed that the Indonesian House of Representatives has not received a Presidential Letter (Surpres) regarding the Polri Bill from the government, so the discussion cannot begin.

According to her, without a Surpres as a legal basis, there are no further steps that can be taken by the DPR in discussing the law.

In addition, Puan highlighted the existence of a draft text and a list of inventory of problems (DIM) of the Polri Bill circulating on social media and causing various speculations in the public.

Puan emphasized that the document is not an official document issued by the government or the DPR.

“So if there is already a DIM circulating, it is not an official DIM,” said Puan.

This statement shows that even though there is pressure from various parties to discuss the Polri Bill, procedurally, the DPR is still waiting for official steps from the government.

It is known that the issue of discussing the revision of the National Police Law has resurfaced after the DPR ratified the revision of Law Number 34 of 2004 concerning the Indonesian National Army (TNI) into law.

Adies Kadir, Deputy Speaker of the DPR, also confirmed that until now there has been no Surpres on the revision of the National Police Law on the leadership table.

“There is no Surpres on the National Police Bill,” said Adies.

With the absence of a Surpres, continued Adies, the revision of the National Police Law will not be discussed by the DPR. Especially in the near future.

“Yes (can’t discuss the revision of the National Police Law),” said the Golkar Party politician.

Recently, social media has been busy discussing the DPR’s plan to discuss the revision of the National Police Law after the recess period, or the next session period.

A number of points of change that have been highlighted by the public, one of which is the authority of the Police in supervising cyberspace, to the investigation and prosecution of all criminal acts.
