Palangka Raya, The First City in Indonesia of “Modern Broadband City”

Palangka as the capital city of Central Kalimantan Province has status as Modern Broadband City. The status is the first in Indonesia.

CIDISS – In the midst of the development of information technology today, many cities are racing to provide various facilities for its users. In fact, internet users have grown rapidly to the depth/ remote area. Although still using 2g network, but has been able to meet the needs of the community.

Central Kalimantan Province has a wide range of landscapes. It becomes a challenge for the province to develop internet access for the community until to the district / city territory.

Apparently, Palangka Raya as Capital of Central Kalimantan Province is the first city in Indonesia determined by PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) as a territory status “Modern Broadband City.” This was revealed by Telkom’s Director of Network and IT Solution, Zulhelfi Abidin at the launch of Telkom Moderen City Palangka Raya in Palangka Raya.

Quote from antaranews kalteng, Zulhelfi Abidin said that this determination is based on several indicators. One of the indicators; Palangka raya has 100 percent fiber optic infrastructure. “One of the indicators is; the city of Palangkaraya is the first provincial capital to have 100 percent fiber optic infrastructure,” said Zulhelfi in front of the Head of Central Kalimantan Diskominfo, Herson B Aden and all the guests.

Modern City is a copper network modernization program to fiber optic network that can improve the quality of information service and communication technology (ICT).

Using this fiber-optic based network, the performance of surfing the internet is getting faster which speed reaches 100 Mbps. Currently for the area of Palangkaraya City, Telkom has recorded 188 “Base Transceiver Station” (BTS), 288 area `public wifi`. Until mid-2017, from 13 districts and one city in Central Kalimantan, Telkom has linked 12 regencies / cities with fiber optic backbone network with the percentage of orders still varying.

As for the two areas of Gunung Mas and Sukamara, are in the process of completion of network construction. It also targets in the period 2018, all regions in Central Kalimantan Province and all the networks have been using fiber optics.

Recently, the total number of subscribers is 12,156 users. The process of establishing Palangka Raya as Modern City takes about one year.

Through improving the quality of this service, it also hopes more and more people and users who feel the benefits directly both to boost the productivity of product marketing and support other activities that use the internet.
