CIDISS – Kotawaringin Timur District Government, Central Kalimantan, is reminded to consistently thoroughly investigate cases of palm oil pollution in the Cempaga River, because it has polluted the environment and disrupt the community.

River is a necessity of life for many people because it is needed for everyday activities so that oil palm spill has an impact on society and local environmental conditions. The government’s firm stance against the company causing pollution should be done immediately.

This was revealed by the Director of Save Our Borneo, Nordin, quoted from antarakalteng. “The Environmental Law should be used in this case, compensation does not mean that the issue of pollution is over because it is an environmental issue,” he said.

He regrets that this issue is not seriously processed. Besides as learning for companies not negligent and neglected to the environment, the law should have been enforced.

According to him, environmental pollution can be regarded as “corporate crime”. If this continues to happen repeatedly and cause casualties, environmental losses and property and even life, it can be categorized as “eco-terrorism” or environmental crimes.

Nordin appreciated the immediate response that came from Governor of Central Kalimantan, H Sugianto Sabran although public complaints were only conveyed through social media. Now people hope the government handles this case explicitly to give a deterrent effect and no longer harm the public.
