Presenting Healthy Smiles, Prabowo-Gibran Government Increases Free Health Access
JAKARTA — The government of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka launched the Free Health Check-up program as a strategic step to improve the quality of public health.
The program is designed to reach 60 million citizens by 2025 and up to 200 million people in the next five years.
The main focus is to prevent non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, stroke and diabetes which are the main causes of death in Indonesia.
President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that the free health checks are primarily aimed at prevention.
“Public health is the top priority. This program is not only to treat, but also to detect early preventable diseases,” Prabowo said at the launch of the program.
A budget of IDR 4.7 trillion from the 2025 State Budget has been allocated to support this initiative, which is also expected to reduce the burden of national health costs.
Dedek Prayudi, Spokesperson for the Presidential Communications Office, stated that this step is a commitment of the Prabowo-Gibran government to reduce the death rate due to cardiovascular disease.
“Routine health screening that reaches all levels of society is the best way to ensure long-term health,” explained Dedek.
He added that early detection can prevent more serious health conditions, especially diseases such as hypertension and high cholesterol.
Ministry of Health Spokesperson Widyawati emphasized the importance of active community participation in the program.
“This program provides an opportunity for residents to get quality health services at no cost. People who have birthdays in 2025 can easily take advantage of this examination through the nearest health center,” he said.
The Head of the Ministry of Health’s Primary Health Service Integration Working Team, Rima Damayanti, also explained the importance of coordination with BPJS Kesehatan.
“Screening may be free, but follow-up requires active BPJS membership,” he said.
He added that the public has 30 days to activate or register BPJS membership so that they can continue to utilize this service optimally.
With implementation starting in February 2025, the Free Health Check-up program is expected to bring healthy smiles to all Indonesian people.
The government ensures that this service is available at various health facilities, covering all age groups, from infants to the elderly.
This concrete step reflects the government’s commitment to creating a healthier and more productive society. (*)
