The construction of the Nusantara Student Dormitory (AMN) in Surabaya was completed in May 2022, now it has been completed and will be inaugurated directly by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Tuesday (29/11).

The construction of AMN Surabaya itself is funded from the State Budget and has been established on an area of ​​1.5 hectares.

Director General of Cipta Karya Diana Kusumastuti said the construction of AMN Surabaya could accommodate 532 students and prioritized accommodating 40 percent of Papuan students studying in East Java.

“Currently AMN Surabaya in its management involves education stakeholders in the region such as the Veterans National Development University (UPN) and currently it is inhabited by around 410 students from various universities in Surabaya and its surroundings,” said Diana.

The AMN Surabaya building consists of two towers as high as five floors by adopting a tropical architectural concept that implements the Green Building Principles. Block one is occupied by female students and block two is occupied by male students.

Aside from being a residence for outstanding students who receive scholarships, AMN Surabaya also functions for coaching activities whose implementation is entrusted to the State Intelligence Agency (BIN).

BIN and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbud Ristek) will work together in the management and training that will be carried out at the Nusantara Student Dormitory (AMN).

The State Intelligence Agency (BIN), which is currently headed by Police General Prof. Dr. Budi Gunawan, S.H., M.Sc. is a state institution that has a role as the front line in the field of intelligence.
BIN is tasked with maintaining national security and defense, in order to ensure the success of national development. So that it is appropriate to be involved in the youth development program as a form of complete human development in preparing a generation of young people who are strong and insightful into the Pancasila and archipelago characters.

The coaching program by BIN is expected to be a forum that can reflect the beauty of diversity among the various differences of each student who will occupy the dormitory.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) will also build Archipelago Student Dormitories (AMN) in various other areas based on Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 106 of 2021. The AMNs that will be built in other regions include, Malang, Jakarta , Yogyakarta, Makassar, and Minahasa.
