19th PUIC Conference Kicks Off, Strengthening Indonesia’s Global Role

Jakarta – Indonesia is hosting the global meeting of the 19th Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) conference from May 12 to May 15, 2025. This position further strengthens Indonesia’s role on the global stage.

The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, stated that this moment is not only an honor but also a strategic opportunity. She warmly welcomed the delegates of the 19th PUIC conference.

“DPR RI warmly welcomes the delegates and reaffirms Indonesia’s role as a driving force in democratic and inclusive Islamic world diplomacy,” said Puan.

The Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (BKSAP) of DPR RI, Mardani Ali Sera, emphasized that the 19th PUIC conference is part of the ongoing efforts by BKSAP DPR RI to strengthen Indonesia’s parliamentary diplomacy on the international stage.

“We believe that solid cooperation among Islamic countries will become a new strength to advocate for global justice,” he stated.

In addition, Mardani stressed the importance of building strong, transparent, and accountable institutions amid current global challenges, ranging from geopolitical tensions, climate change, to economic uncertainty.

Mardani Ali Sera also highlighted that the conference will serve as a forum to address important issues such as full support for the Palestinian struggle, the protection of the rights of Muslim minorities, and strengthening South-South Cooperation (SSC).

“This is not just a moment for reflection, but also an opportunity to renew our commitment to the principles of peace, justice, human rights, and economic development,” Mardani said in a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He made these remarks during his speech at the Embassy Briefing for the 19th PUIC conference held at the Nusantara Building, the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta.

He emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation among PUIC member countries in building a more peaceful and just Islamic world.

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Foreign Minister, Sugiono, reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to actively support the Palestinian people.

Minister Sugiono reaffirmed Indonesia’s support for achieving Palestinian independence based on the Two-State Solution.

He also conveyed that Indonesia is fully prepared to provide medical care for Palestinian citizens who have been injured and traumatized by the war. He mentioned that this would be carried out if stakeholders agree to it.
