3 Million Homes Program Accelerates Job Creation

Jakarta — The 3 million housing development program initiated by President Prabowo Subianto not only answers the basic needs of the community for decent housing, but also becomes a new locomotive for the creation of millions of jobs in Indonesia. This ambitious initiative was enthusiastically welcomed by the majority of industry players, related ministries, and the wider community as a concrete solution from the government, developers, technical ministries, and building materials industry players.
The General Chairperson of the DPP Realestate Indonesia (REI), Joko Suranto, stated that this program has a significant impact on the national economy, especially in terms of job creation in the construction sector and its derivative industries.
“By contributing to building two million houses in villages and on the coast, this program will create at least two million new jobs,” said Joko. He added that building houses in rural areas is a golden opportunity to distribute economic growth more evenly.
Joko also highlighted the importance of building quality supervision as a form of protection for the beneficiary community. “To ensure that the quality of housing is truly maintained, from the beginning we have encouraged a strict supervision policy in every house construction,” he said.
Optimism towards this program was also conveyed by the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), Maruarar Sirait. According to him, the government is targeting the acceleration of achieving 3 million houses in a relatively short time. Not only is it a solution to the lack of decent housing for low-income people (MBR), this program is also believed to be able to boost national economic growth.
“This program can drive economic growth to reach 8 percent through job creation in the construction sector and increasing the competitiveness of the domestic building materials industry,” said Maruarar. He emphasized that this project is part of President Prabowo’s direct order, which ordered that housing construction be carried out through mutual cooperation by all stakeholders.
“The President has tasked PKP to build and renovate houses for the community together with all stakeholders, including developers, banks and local governments,” continued Maruarar.
The Head of the National Housing Task Force, Hashim S Djojohadikusumo, reinforced the statement by conveying the potential for even greater employment. He estimated that this program could absorb up to six million new workers.
“One house needs 4 to 5 workers to build it. In the city, it’s different, it’s an apartment, it also needs hundreds of thousands of new workers. So we can accommodate 5 to 6 million new jobs,” said Hashim.
He also conveyed President Prabowo’s great hope that young Indonesians, especially those in remote areas, can work domestically. “We hope that young people in the regions can get decent jobs domestically, so that they have the option to build a future in their own country,” he said.
Hashim added that providing decent wages is a major commitment in implementing this program. “We provide dignified work of course with decent wages, fair wages, which are just,” he concluded.
With cross-sector support and a strong collaborative spirit, the 3 million homes program is not only a physical development project, but also a national movement to improve the welfare of the people and strengthen the foundation of the nation’s economy from the grassroots. President Prabowo’s grand vision is now beginning to show its form: decent homes, dignified jobs, and a better future for all Indonesian people. [^]
