JAKARTA – Ahead of the upcoming Youth Pledge Day commemoration on October 28, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto reiterated the government’s commitment to developing Indonesia’s golden generation by strengthening scholarships at the Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP). The government plans to increase the education endowment fund by utilizing proceeds from the recovery of state losses from corruption.

During a Plenary Cabinet Session at the State Palace, which coincided with the first anniversary of his presidency, President Prabowo stated that funds raised from the corruption eradication effort must be returned to the people through improvements in the quality of national education and research. The President even directed Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa to channel some of the Rp13 trillion in confiscated funds to the LPDP (Indonesian Development Planning Agency).

“We can put some of it into the LPDP for the future. We must invest the money from efficiency and corruption in education,” Prabowo said.

The President also emphasized the importance of expanding access to education for high-achieving children from underprivileged families. He requested that relevant ministries and institutions, including the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), and community organizations, help identify highly intelligent children in various regions.

“Many poor children are highly intelligent. We must find them and provide them with full scholarships,” he pleaded.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek), Brian Yuliarto, stated that President Prabowo had directed that the allocation of LPDP scholarships be adjusted to the needs of future industries.

“The President reminded us to carefully calculate the human resources needed, including LPDP scholarships, to align with the development of new industries, such as food security, energy, and mineral downstreaming,” Brian said in Jakarta.

Deputy Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Stella Christie, added that the government will soon map out plans to increase LPDP funding. According to her, the increase in the education endowment fund will be directed not only at students but also at lecturers and researchers to improve their competency.

“The President wants to produce superior human resources in science and technology, but also in other fields that are essential for the country,” said Stella.

President Prabowo’s administration is not only focused on physical development, but also on developing superior and globally competitive Indonesian people. As the Youth Pledge commemoration approaches, the spirit of enlightening the nation’s life is reaffirmed as a key pillar towards a Golden Indonesia 2045.
