Jakarta – The momentum of International Labor Day or May Day on May 1, 2025, is an event to strengthen solidarity and raise the positive spirit of workers. This moment is an opportunity to strengthen national unity amidst various global economic challenges that require cooperation from all elements of society.
A number of figures, both from labor and journalist circles, called for the series of Mayday activities to be carried out in an orderly and conducive manner.
The General Chairperson of the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI), Nany Afrida, appealed for all series of activities commemorating Labor Day or May Day on May 1 to be carried out in an orderly manner and to be alert to all forms of provocation.
“May Day is an important moment to voice the interests of labor groups, including journalists, but it must still be carried out in an orderly and conducive manner,” said Nany.
On the other hand, Habib Syakur Ali Mahdi as the General Chairperson of the National Conscience Movement (GNK) expressed his hopes for the entire labor community in Indonesia. He encouraged workers from various sectors to celebrate May Day with a sense of joy and optimism.
“May Day is an important moment for workers to voice their rights, but it must be celebrated in a positive, joyful way, and while maintaining unity,” said Habib Syakur.
He said that the May Day action focused on conveying aspirations creatively, such as through dialogue with the government or other positive activities that reflect the spirit of civilized labor struggle.
“Don’t let the noble May Day be tarnished by the interests of certain groups,” he added.
Meanwhile, in the Banten region, the Regional Leadership Council of the National Workers Union (DPD-SPN) of Banten Province is committed to supporting a safe, peaceful and responsible commemoration of International Workers’ Day 2025.
Chairperson of the Banten Province SPN DPD, Intan Indria Dewi, said that the importance of the momentum of May 1 is dignified and meaningful, so that the message conveyed can be well received by various parties.
“All labor elements celebrated May Day this year in peaceful and intelligent ways,” he said.
