All Indonesian people should give a very high appreciation for how serious the Indonesian Government and President Jokowi are in continuing to really ensure that all venues for the 2023 ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo can be ready to be used and welcome all guest delegates.

It is known that the President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI), Joko Widodo (Jokowi) accompanied by First Lady, Iriana Jokowi arrived in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT) on Saturday, April 22 2023 yesterday evening. The arrival of the Head of State used a presidential plane and landed directly at Komodo Airport, Labuan Bajo at 18:44 WITA.

The agenda before the President and the First Lady visited Labuan Bajo in person was that they first perform the Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijri prayer at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Surakarta City, Central Java Province on Saturday morning. Then he took the time beforehand to celebrate Eid with his family at his private residence in Solo.

It can be seen that a number of figures visited President Jokowi’s private house, including the general chairman of the Gerindra Party, Prabowo Subianto. In fact, the two of them, Prabowo and Jokowi, had a one-on-one meeting in an atmosphere full of intimacy.

Of course, the arrival of the seventh Indonesian President to Labuan Bajo during his visit was not just for personal agendas, but also included checking again regarding the preparation of the venue to be used by the Indonesian Chair in holding the ASEAN Summit in May 2023. .

Previously, President Jokowi himself had made a direct visit to Labuan Bajo to check the readiness of the venue for the 2023 ASEAN Summit, namely on March 14, 2023. He also made a visit at the same time to inaugurate the Labuan Bajo road section leading to Golo Mori in the Komodo District.

At that time, he considered that a number of venues for holding international-scale events were ready for the ASEAN Summit in May 2023, but they still needed a few minor touches.

Furthermore, President Joko Widodo stated that the holding of the 2023 ASEAN Summit would also be a promotional event for Labuan Bajo as a super priority tourist destination, one of which is Golo Mori Village which has good and beautiful views.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI), West Manggarai, Silvester Wanggel said that the occupancy rate of hotel rooms or occupancy was full when the ASEAN Summit was held in Labuan Bajo. Even hotel rooms in the region have been full since early May and some of those attending the ASEAN Summit had to be forced to rent houses from residents in Labuan Bajo.

A few days earlier, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy / Deputy Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Wamenparekraf / Wakabaparekraf), Angela Tanoesoedibjo, also reviewed the readiness of the location and supporting infrastructure for the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo.

The inspection was carried out on Tuesday (18/4) and Wednesday (19/4) in several locations around Labuan Bajo, namely Komodo International Airport, the Marina and Waterfront area in Kampung Ujung, Meruorah Komodo Labuan Bajo Resort and Creative Hub Labuan Bajo in Puncak Waringin, the Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) at the West Manggarai Regent’s Office, Cipta Karya Service Field, SDA, and Spatial Planning for West Manggarai Regency, and the Golo Mori area.

He also reviewed the readiness of the infrastructure there. Angela stated that the Kemenparekraf itself was very ready to fully support the implementation of the ASEAN Summit on 9 to 11 May 2023 by presenting many people’s party events involving local Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

According to him, the government really wants all people to feel involved in these international scale activities. Therefore, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy wanted to present a side event that could not only be enjoyed by the delegates, but also by all local communities.

Therefore, in this case, the involvement of all local communities is very important to continue to support the success of holding the 2023 ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, mainly in promoting various kinds of MSME products native to local residents.

It can be seen that the Government of Indonesia is not playing games at all in making all kinds of preparations for Indonesia’s chairmanship at the 2023 ASEAN Summit. Therefore, the readiness of all venues continues to be carried out periodically. Even President Jokowi himself immediately returned to Labuan Bajo after celebrating Eid al-Fitr with his family in the morning. President Jokowi’s seriousness in ensuring the readiness of all ASEAN Summit venues deserves very high appreciation.
