Jakarta – The role of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in driving the national creative industry has received increasing attention. MSMEs make significant contributions to preserving local culture and developing innovations that can compete in the global market. Support for MSMEs has become a key factor in strengthening the economy and opening business opportunities.

The Corporate Secretary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG), Vita Mahreyni, appreciated the creativity of MSMEs in adapting traditional fabrics or wastra from Indonesia into modern fashion.

Wastra Indonesia is not just fabric; it is also an identity and pride of the nation. The creativity of MSMEs supported by SIG in combining wastra Indonesia with modern fashion trends is expected to foster pride and attract the interest of the public, especially the younger generation,” she said.

Support for MSMEs aligns with efforts to improve the competitiveness of local products. Through coaching, training, and broader access to marketing, MSMEs have the opportunity to strengthen their presence in both domestic and international markets.

The Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir, emphasized the importance of synergy between state-owned enterprises and MSMEs in strengthening the national economy.

“BUMN focuses not only on corporate growth but also on helping MSMEs grow and become resilient in both national and international markets,” he stated.

The Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag), Fajarini Puntodewi, revealed the potential transactions from business matching for MSME players.

“In January 2025, the business matching we conducted recorded promising results with potential transactions reaching USD 5.22 million. This value consists of USD 1.55 million in purchase transactions and USD 3.67 million in potential transactions in the form of memorandums of understanding (MoUs),” Puntodewi said.

Support for MSMEs is realized through various initiatives, ranging from training and mentoring to facilitating marketing and digital access. With these strategies, MSMEs can enhance their competitiveness and develop more innovative and value-added products.

Furthermore, collaboration with academics and designers is expected to strengthen innovation in the national creative industry. The use of digital technology and e-commerce has become key to expanding the market reach of MSME products to the global level.

As public awareness of the importance of local products increases, support from both the public and private sectors has become even more crucial. Programs such as creative communities, product exhibitions, and digital platforms are expected to broaden MSMEs’ access to development and competitiveness. Through these strategies, MSMEs not only become the driving force of the national economy but also icons of national pride.

Through these various initiatives, it is hoped that MSMEs will continue to grow as the main pillar of the national creative industry. Continued support from various sectors will ensure that local products are preserved and become part of the national identity that remains relevant with the times.
