Appreciation of Government Efforts to Involve Various Stakeholders to Realize Food Self-Sufficiency
Jakarta – Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Ahmad Sahroni, expressed his appreciation for the government’s strategic steps involving various stakeholders in efforts to realize national food self-sufficiency. He specifically highlighted the active role of the Indonesian Police Food Security Task Force which has succeeded in increasing corn harvests during the first quarter of 2025.
ŇThis is a really good initiative from the Police to help the country achieve food self-sufficiency. Because to achieve self-sufficiency, we cannot only rely on farmers. There must be cross-sector cooperation, starting from scientists, farmers, business people, youth, police, and other stakeholders,Ó said Sahroni in his written statement.
According to Sahroni, this success is a real example that cross-sector collaboration is very important to overcome the increasingly complex challenges of food security. He said that the involvement of the Police as a law enforcement institution in the agricultural sector is an innovation that deserves to be appreciated.
Meanwhile, member of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PDI Perjuangan Faction, Prof. Dr. Ir. Rokhmin Dahuri, MS, emphasized the importance of food self-sufficiency as a development priority in order to create Indonesian food independence. He said that synergy between the government, BUMN, and farmers is the key to the success of rice and corn absorption in the field.
ŇEstablishing food self-sufficiency or sovereignty as a development priority is a must. Together with the government and the DPR, especially Commission IV, we are committed to overseeing every policy from upstream to downstream. The policy must be right and correct in order to realize Indonesia’s food independence,Ó he said.
Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman also gave his appreciation to the Field Agricultural Extension Workers (PPL) who have been at the forefront of achieving national food sovereignty.
“Without PPL, it would be impossible for us to achieve the leaps we have achieved today,” said Amran.
Head of the Agricultural Extension and Human Resources Development Agency (BPPSDMP) Idha Widya Arsanti assessed that the role of PPL is very vital in food self-sufficiency. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the commitment so that there is one rhythm and one command.
ŇPPL must focus on the objectives, namely the acceleration of Additional Planted Area (LTT), increasing the planting index, and increasing productivity.
These objectives must be a reference in the movement in the field, especially in assisting farmers to realize food self-sufficiency and become more prosperous,Ó said Idha.
