Dumai, Riau — The government’s efforts to eradicate drug trafficking have again yielded brilliant results. The Dumai Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) Base successfully thwarted the smuggling of 44 packages of crystal methamphetamine with a total weight of 48.54 kilograms in the waters of Kuala Parit Paman, Tanjung Palas Village, Dumai Timur District, Dumai City, Riau Province.
Commander of Dumai Navy Base (Danlanal), Navy Colonel Abdul Haris, revealed that this operation was the result of intense intelligence work. The information obtained mentioned a plan to smuggle crystal methamphetamine by an international network from Malaysia to Indonesian territory through Dumai waters.
“The pursuit was carried out by a sea team with 13 personnel tasked with blocking the sea, and a land team with seven personnel to close the suspected rat routes as landing points on the coast of Mundam Beach,” explained Abdul.
Thanks to quick action and solid coordination, the joint team succeeded in thwarting the smuggling attempt and is estimated to have saved 242 thousand lives from the dangers of narcotics.
“It is estimated that the total value of the evidence that was successfully thwarted reached around Rp. 72.81 billion,” added Abdul.
This success has received widespread appreciation, including from the Chairman of Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Lasarus, who emphasized the importance of synergy between agencies in preventing increasingly complex narcotics smuggling.
“Drug syndicates are now increasingly sophisticated in developing smuggling methods. Their methods are increasingly varied and difficult to detect. Therefore, coordination between security forces, customs, and port and airport managers is very crucial,” said Lasarus.
Meanwhile, Head of the Tanjung Balai Karimun Customs Information and Counseling Section, Fajar Suryanto, stated that his party also succeeded in thwarting two cases of crystal methamphetamine smuggling with a total weight of 136.4 grams. This success was thanks to close coordination with the Karimun Police.
“This action is part of our commitment to protect the community from the dangers of drugs. We will continue to strengthen patrols and surveillance in border areas, which are often vulnerable routes for smuggling narcotics from abroad,” Fajar said.
The success of the Indonesian Navy, Customs and Police is real evidence of the effectiveness of synergy between agencies in suppressing the rate of drug trafficking. The government is also expected to continue to strengthen the early detection system and expand cross-sector coordination to protect the public from the threat of narcotics.
