The 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) officially opened on Wednesday, May 14, at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta.

Carrying the theme “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience,” this international forum brought together approximately 450 parliamentarians from OIC member states.

Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Mardani Ali Sera, previously confirmed that the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, was scheduled to attend the opening ceremony of the 19th PUIC Conference, held at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (May 14, 2025).

“The message is clear: Indonesia is ready to serve as a bridge for all, towards shared prosperity and collective peace,” said Mardani.

According to him, President Prabowo’s presence, alongside Speaker of the House Puan Maharani, reflects Indonesia’s strong commitment to playing an active role on the global stage, particularly among Islamic nations.

This year’s PUIC Conference also highlights the importance of involving women and youth in peacebuilding efforts.

In the 12th Conference of Muslim Women Parliamentarians, held as part of the PUIC program, BKSAP Member Ruby Chairani Syiffadia emphasized the urgency of investing in the younger generation.

“When we talk about peacebuilding and sustainable solutions to conflict resolution, the most important factor is actually investing in our youth,” said Ruby.

She also underscored that Indonesia, as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, bears a moral responsibility to lead the collective empowerment of women at both regional and global levels.

Through this conference, Indonesia once again demonstrates its capacity to serve as a hub for dialogue and strategic cooperation among Islamic countries.
